Hyperthyroidsm - newly diagnosed

Hello all,
If anyone has experiences to share I would really appreciate it. I am 31yo I just had a baby girl in March of this year :))). About a month ago, I started feeling really fatigued, have had headaches, increased appetite (have lost a little weight) and my heart rate is definitely up there. I've also been shakey, kind of a nervous tension that comes and goes. My doctor recommended a blood test after letting me know that my thyroid was enlarged during an exam. The blood test confirmed hyperthyroidism and just yesterday and today I went for my thyroid scan and uptake at my local hospital. I was definitely out of "normal" range for the scan (the normal scan in this case was 5-20% and mine was functioning at 83%). No nodules were noticed during the actual ultrasound and pictures that were taken so that's a good thing. These symptoms are just difficult to deal with.

I am concerned because I am trying to get an appointment with an endocrinologist but it's at least a week to two week wait. That seems like a long wait, especially with this condition. My husband and I would like to have more children and I wonder if this condition will cause preganancy to be problematic? Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

Happy Holidays!

Hi and welcome - I think you should be ok waiting a week or two and that's actually a very unusual thing - to get an appointment so quickly. With regard to future pregnancies, you'll be fine once you are treated for your hyper. You'll be monitored throughout the pregnancy to make you and the baby are fine. But ... you must be treated before hand and must be down to normal levels before even attempting to conceive. Hope this helps and that you hear from others that have had similiar experiences. The board is very slow this week - probably due to the holidays!! Cathy :)
