Test results...help me understand!

Hi Ladies!

I need some help interpreting my latest test results.

I had LOTS of tests run and I have no idea how to interpret most of them so I’m assuming that if they’re in the lab’s normal ranges, they’re okay.

Anyway, here’s the thyroid stuff:

TSH (the lab uses the old range of 0.35 – 5.5) but I had a 2.002
Thyroxine (T4) (lab range 4.5 – 12.0) I had 11 (which is on the high end, does that mean anything?)
T3 Uptake (lab range 24-39) I had 29
Free Thyroxine Index (lab range 1.2 - 4.9) I had 3.2.

Like I said, they did LOTS of test. They are running a fasting lipid now and are still waiting on the results of my testosterone levels. I have no idea if they tested the antibodies (what is the specific name for that test?).

I had started to feel better, but today I feel all achy again…I think, to some extent, the PA will do what she can to help me. I guess this is just a first step to rule out other things…but I’m already feeling the frustration I know many of you do.

If anyone has any input on the T4 level being high, and if anything can be done about that, or what that indicates…please let me know!

Thanks!

Hi - the results look ok to me. The high-ish T4 just means that you are producing a lot but your body seems to be using it since your TSH is still in the normal range. Did the doctor say anything about these results? Cathy :)

Thanks Cathy, I was SOOO hoping for an "easy" answer (aren't we all? LOL!). I was hoping something would show up screwy and we could then fix the problem. No such luck, so far.

I haven't talked to either the doctor or the PA. They are still waiting for the other test results to come in. My understanding is they should have all the results tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday. If everything is normal, I'm not sure what to do...where to go, or how to proceed. I'm hoping the PA gives me some guidance on that. I suppose I will have to make an appointment for that though...you know, they never actually telephone a patient! LOL!

I am very grateful, though, that at least the PA is willing to TRY to find something and is taking me seriously. I know so many of the folks who post here don't have that luxury...wish I could share her with everyone! LOL!
