I posted a while back about having Vertigo after having the Radioactive Thyroid Scan; my name is Carole... Of course, the Vertigo had nothing to do with the scan, but it's my belief had everything to do with my bad sinuses and having to hold my head held back so they could scan the thyroid... ANYWAY.....
I waited for a call from the doctor's office, it never came. So, I called them. They hadn't heard from Radiology at the hospital yet. I didn't think they would until I made noise. Finally, I get a phone call a couple of weeks ago letting me know that my scan showed a "possible goiter" (I already KNEW that), and that they sent in a referral to see a specialist. The girl said that when the approval came in, she would call me with the specialists phone number so I could make an appointment. More waiting... I called the doctor's office last Friday and asked if anything had come back. The girl I spoke to didn't know! She couldn't find anything in my chart about me even having HAD the scan or ultrasound or ANYTHING. She would pass the message on to the girl who does the referrals and have her call me. She didn't. Yesterday I called the HMO choice plan who would have approved the referral and left a message. That lady called me this morning and said that the approval had been done on Dec. 10th! I will be seeing a Dr. Otsuka. I had been doing research and was really hoping to see a doctor Joseph Damiana as someone on one of the thyroid site I was looking at highly recommended him for my area in CA. When I looked up our Yellow Pages, Dr. Damiana was the only Endochrinologist listed for my area. So when I got this other doctor's name, I looked him up in the Yellow Pages and saw him under surgeons. I don't know about you guys, but I really like to know what is planned with MY body! So, I called Dr. Otsuka's office, and asked a very pleasant lady what type of doctor he was, and she said he's an Endochrinologist. Well, that gave me some relief! But she hadn't received anything from my doctor's office to start the referral process. SO, I called my doctor's office and asked the "referral girl" what was going on with the process. She told me I had been approved and that I needed to call Dr Otsuka for an appointment. I told her I had just talked to their office and they said they couldn't do anything until they got the information from my doctor's office. Now, I know it's the holidays, and we're all busy and 'Tis the season to be grumpy and all that... I just needed to let some steam off, and you were the lucky ones I chose. (Sorry). I sure hope you all are having a calmer season than I am!
Merry Christmas!
Carole

Wow!
You know, sometimes you just have to wonder about some of the people working in doctor's offices! I mean, these people are supposedly educated to some extent (most have post-high school classes of some sort) and doctors, being the BUSINESS-men they are should realize the value of CUSTOMER SERVICE. I can easily believe the run-around you got, because I've either been there or heard of it...but at least you are getting some answers!!! And good for you for calling and making some noise! Keep it up!
You are always welcome to vent here...we all do it! :)
Keep us posted on what happens!

Hi Carole,
I'm curious if your clinic would refer you to Dr. Damiana if you requested it.
