Hi, I am 33 almost 34 years old have 4 kids. Since my last kid I have been feeling yucky. My periods are not consistent sp? and are long becase I start spotting days before and after my period. My stomach get out of wack when my period gets near and I feel emtional. I thought I have been loosing my hair but, was not for sure. Doctors at first said it was my hormones from having a baby(youngest is 21 months) But today when I went to get my hair done my hair stylist that I was loosing hair and said thought it was my thyroid. My family doctor had it my tsh tested(months ago) it was 5.47 but my free t4 was 1.1 which she said was in normal range. So she said it was not my thyroid. The only other thing is my wbc was going done but when she sent my to a hematologist it was back up. I also have dry eyes, bad lower back pain, and sometimes my ovaries fell like they are going to explode, and have enlarged lymph nodes in groin area but the are not that big. I have a cat scan and they were not even visible on it. Even thought my free t4 was in normal range could I still have a thyroid problem?

Thanks

Hi and welcome - your TSH is actually not in the normal range at all. It is normal for the lab ranges but not normal for many doctors to diagnose hypothyroidism. The new upper limit is 3.0 and anything above that, along with symptoms, can indicate hypothyroidism. Even though you have some symptoms though, it doesn't sound like that is all that is going on to me. I'm not a doctor or an expert but you have some symptoms that signal that something else may also be a problem, or may be the only problem, giving you hypo-like symptoms. Those things include the lower back pain, lymph nodes in the groin area and that feeling in your ovaries, which must just be awful for you! I would go to a good ob/gyn to see what's going on. If your doctor blames all your symptoms - and they sound serious to me - on the birth of your child, find a new doctor! I'm not kidding. You need to find out what's causing you so many troubles and get some treatment. What do you think? Cathy
