Hi,

I'm very frustrated and confused. I don't know what's going on with me.
I recently had my thyroid checked and they said it was normal. T4 free 1.8, TSH 1.62, something else was 2.646, I'm not sure if I wrote down the info. correctly, the nurse was very rude. I know something is wrong but not sure what. I'm 46 and have been dealing with perimenopause for about 3 years, I take HRT for that, an antidepressant, and a beta-blocker for high BP. The past few months it seems that the HRT and antidepressant aren't working any more. I'm very fatigued and depressed and I've gained weight. I feel achey all the time. I'm barely functioning. I just called the dr.'s office to see if I could get in tomorrow and she can't see me till Tuesday! I saw my GYN on Monday and I've begun tapering off my hormones. I tried a different antidepressant a few weeks ago and felt REALLY BAD so I went back to Lexapro. Any advice? I'm desperate!

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi Melissa - I'm sorry you're dealing with so many health issues. It doesn't sound as if your thyroid is an underlying factor here because your blood test results and symptoms don' really reflect it. It sounds to me as if it's the perimenopausal issues, which are so similiar to thyroid symptoms that it's easy to confuse them! But, with your blood tests results being so squarely normal all around, I would rely on your ob/gyn to deal with how you're feeling. If she doesn't help you, then try to get a referral to an endocrinologist who specializes in hormone issues and may be able to help you further. Good luck! I hope you get some relief from all this. The secret is to keep trying!! Don't give up! Cathy :)
