HI AGAIN!! I APPRECIATE ALL THE GREAT INPUT I RECEIVED FROM MY EARLIER POST-"FIRST LOW TSH, NOW HIGH TSH", YOU ARE ALL SO SUPPORTIVE ON HERE!!
I AM HOPING SOMEONE ON THIS BOARD CAN TELL ME IF THEY ARE OR KNOW OF ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN ALLERGIC TO IODINE OR IVP DYE, WHO ALSO HAS BECOME HYPO OR HYPER LATER??? SINCE I WAS "SUBCLINICAL HYPER" IN NOV., NOW HYPO AS OF 2 WEEKS AGO, I AM STILL A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I EVER GO BACK TO HYPER, SINCE I CAN'T HAVE IODINE? ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS?
I HAVE PICKED UP A TERRIBLE SINUS & THROAT INFECTION, AND HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN HOME FROM OUR BUSINESS FOR 2 DAYS--SOMETHING I'VE NEVER DONE BEFORE, BUT DON'T EVER REMEMBER FEELING THIS BAD, FEELS LIKE A LITTLE PNEUMONIA, MAYBE. LITTLE BETTER TONIGHT, BUT NO ENERGY. THINK MY IMMUNE SYSTEM IS WAY DOWN FROM HAVING TO WAIT SO LONG TO GET INTO THE ENDOCRINOLOGIST, 2 MONTHS, AND REALLY HAD THIS(THYROID THING) GOING ON FOR 4 MONTHS.
I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING A LOT ON ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY, AS I REALLY DO HAVE MANY OF THOSE SYMPTOMS, SO THIS MIGHT BE MIXED!!
THANKS FOR BEING THERE TO ALL OF YOU!! TAKE CARE!!

I, too, am allergic to IVP dye. I had a severe anaphylactic reaction, while in the hospital, during a brain scan, receiving IVP dye. Many years later, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I had most of my thyroid removed, as well as pre-cancerous thyroid tumors, too. My thyroid has been far from functional for about 15 years, now. Constant TSH monitoring, and medication changes/adjustments.
It's interesting that you mentioned Graves Disease, too. That was always my thought, through the years, too. I have had times when my thyroid went hyper, but by often. But, during those times, I wondered what would happen since I didn't think I could have iodine treatment, either. However, I would also wonder if iodine treatment is not at all the same as iodine contrast, which used to be highly concentrated, especially when I had my reaction so many years ago. Also, Just yesterday, I had our 14-year old son in to the doc, because I was concerned he has a newly developed thyroid problem, too, but specifically Graves Disease. He has many symptoms, but most obvious is that his eyes are changing, and have that bulging look, for about a month, now. Our family mentioned that same observation, on different occasions, and so have thee people noticed, without our prompting. So, today, his TSH blood work came back very low. He is having more tests done, based on waiting for his T3 & T4 results. My question to the doc was also that of wondering if our son may also be allergic to IVP dye. And, because of the dangerous emergency situation I was in, when I had my reaction, I want to make sure precautions are made to avoid that, just in case he inherited my IVP allergy.
I hope your results are more favorable, and that you're both feeling better, and all your thyroid symptoms are under control, and medication right!
Take care. And, I hope that hearing my similar story will help you out! :)
Hi momsfourboys,
I wonder how often this allergy comes up.
