Hello everybody!! I finally (after 2 months on a list)and 4 months of feeling like this saw an ENDO yesterday. No real answers yet...LOL...but I do like him. He is also checking out my adrenal glands for insufficiency, at my request, since from the research I've done I do seem to have some of that as well.
I was pretty upset after calling several times in the last few weeks about having my records sent to this ENDO, to find out they were NOT there yesterday, only the ones from my Rheumatologist. So they came across the Fax machine as I was Leaving the appt. This meant he didn't have any of my lab results OR my ultrasound result from November. I had been told that my ultrasound was normal, however, I asked for copies of everything while I stood there and saw on the ultrasound report from the radiologist that the impression read:
The Mixed echotexture of the thyroid gland is nonspecific, possibility
representing multinodular disease. There is no focal mass lesion identified.
I have done some reading on this, and maybe some of you can explain this to me, but that does not sound like a NORMAL report, does it to you? I am not very happy about that right now, as my doctor knows that I tend to be a little more "medically educated" and research things quite a bit so I am having a hard time understanding why she didn't read that to me?
The ENDO is waiting for the blood tests but he thinks that could be several days, then will let me know, but I hope this is soon as my symptoms seem so much worse.
Do any of you find that you get sore throats, colds, coughs that seem to really "attack" your throat now. My last few colds (6 months) seem to attack my vocal cords & throat and can't seem to get over it for weeks?
I am so thankful for this board & everyone who contributes, it makes it so nice when you're having a "bad" day or week, to know you can come here and everyone else UNDERSTANDS!!!
Thanks to all of You!! Have a Great Week!!

Hi - I'm sl glad you finally got to see your new doctor and that you liked him. I find that it's so rare for doctors to even ASK for past files much less send them. Things sure have changed. I remember when you couldn't even get a doctor's appointment until your medical files arrived!! Now most doctors treat you like a blank slate. Anyway ... enough of my ranting! LOL!
It sound like you have nodules to me and perhaps your past doc didn't mention it because they are very normal but still ... that's a stretch. I would guess, too, that the nodules are the reason why you feel so much going on in your throat. They may be interfering in some way. I know many other members have mentioned sore throats, increased colds, etc, with hypothyroidism and thyroid nodules. I haven't experienced that myself but it seems pretty common just from out experience here on the board.
The fact that there is no "focal mass lession" means that there isn't any one specific area where a nodule could be identified. I just got to see about 30 pictures of my son's thyroid 2 weeks ago when he had his ultrasound and it's even worse than looking at a picture of your baby!!! LOL! But the doctor spent a lot of time showing us what everything meant. If there had been a nodule big enough to be identified - and I'm guessing it might be identified as a focal mass lession, then we would have been able to see it there. Instead, his thyroid showed widespread destruction in an even pattern, just what the doctor said one would expect of someone with Hashimoto's. The brighter spots on the thyroid represented areas that had the highest accumulation of antibodies - very interesting!!
So even though your ultrasound doesn't sound like it was exactly normal, it doesn't sound like it was all that bad either. When will you get your doctor's take on it? When they call with your blood test results? Cathy :)
