Hot Flashes - GONE???

Hi Everone!

All this time I thought I was going thru menopause (still may be). Hot flashes, and all the other symptoms associated with menopause.  Well, went to a general MD and had a blood test done and it was my thyroid......... hypothyrodism.  So he prescribed  Levoxyl for me.  I've been on that for 2 weeks now and the hot flashes have stopped! I'm shocked!!

How does this happen?   Does the thyroid have something to do with hot flashes?  Also, no period since December..............

Tomorrow I'm going to see a GYN. I hope to have some answers.  In the meantime, anyone else stop having hot flashes when starting the thyroid meds?

Hi and welcome - the thyroid controls and interacts with many of our hormones so it makes sense that when we get our thyroid under control, other hormones come into balance, too. I had many perimenopausal symptoms, too but they were all actually hypothyroid symptoms. I went to my ob/gyn in tears because I thought I was starting menopause and couldn't imagine feeing that way for the next 10 years or so! A few months later, during a physical, I found out it was my thyroid. Once I was on the proper dose of medication, all those symptoms went away. It's pretty amazing!! Hopefully, your period will be back on track soon, as well. Let us now what the gyn says! Cathy :)

Hi:

I too was amazed when I started getting what I thought were perimenopausal symptoms (I'm 35)... turned out to be hypo...

Good luck to you!
Dee.
ps. when those periods come back, look out for PMS... it's a doozie on hypo!! :-)
