Anyone with hives?

Hi:
Question for all... A while back, there were a couple of you who were breaking out in hives. Any of you still around? I've been breaking out in hives more and more. It seems to increase with each increase in my levothroid....

What did you all find out about why they might be happening?

Its frustrating because other things are getting a little better... it's like, man, there's always something!

That would be me. I started having hives last June when my TSH level was completely whacked out. My numbers were all over the charts with just a little change in dosage. Never did really figure out what the problem was, but my doctor thinks there were a lot of contributing factors including that fact that my daughter was weaning herself so the pregnancy hormones were levelling out. He increased my dosage of Levoxyl from 0.088 to 0.1 and put me on clarinex for a month. Well, the hives went away, but my skin is still super-sensitive. If I scratch myself just slightly, within 15 minutes I have a red welt. It doesn't hurt, but it can look nasty.

Thanks to you both for your replies; they made me feel better. I like the idea that it might be because I'm getting better :-)

It's interesting about the link between other hormones, isn't it? How they can interact, and no one really knows exactly what is happening... The other thing that's happened is that I have a couple of big pimples (!)... which I haven't had in years!

Something else I have (that I've never heard anyone else say), is that whenever my TSH is going up, my Rosacea flares up... and when I'm on a new dose and starting to level out, it goes away (?!) I've also only had the Rosacea since I started becoming hypo.

My skin is really sensitive now, too. I get a hive on my cheek when my hair irritates a certain spot for too long...

I have a deal with my endocrinologist that if my levels aren't in the target this time, she'll look at trying something new. But I do think this hive bout is a reaction to the larger dose, so am hoping it will even out.

Thanks again,

Dee.

Hi Dee - I hope it evens out for you, too. I got hives when my hypothyroid was undiagnosed, then right before I found out that was what I had, it would run in cycles with my period. I was allergic to my own progesterone! Does it never end? LOL! Anyway, all of it has gone away completely since i've leveled out. Even a brief elevation of my TSH, which I'm experiencing now, doesn't bring it all back thank goodness!! I think once you get leveled out, the longer you stay in that range, the better chance you have of leaving some of those symptoms behind. That's what seems to be happening with me. Maybe it happens for others that way, too. Hugs, Cathy :)
