Hi Cathy! You might want to try taking a calcium supplement. I know when I started taking it, I really didn't notice any difference, until I slacked off on taking it and my nails got bad again. If you are not into taking pills, I have taken the Vi-active (I think that's what's it is called). It's the supplements that look and taste like candy. I did the carmel ones and they tasted good. Be careful, they stick to your teeth.

I have also upped my milk intake, which my husband freaks out about because with Grave's you are not supposed eat or drink a lot or if any dairy. Oh well! I need my milk! Now that I think about it, I'm not sure where calcium supplements fall into the Grave's disease diet. I guess I should call my endo!

Oops! I need to take my supplement! I forgot!

Hope this helps! Danielle

Hi Danielle - thanks for the advice. I already eat 3 servings of dairy a day so it's not that. I wish it were!! Then I could just start taking calcium and watch my nails gets stronger!! Why aren't you supposed to have dairy with Graves disease? Cathy :)

Hi Cathy, I really have not read the books my husband has got me, just skimmed thru them, especially about the diet parts. I think it's because of how hard it can be to digest dairy products. I need to start reading thru the books to educate myself and then I'll be able to tell you more! I still drink 2-3 glasses of milk a day and that really did not help my nails. We even drink calcium fortified orange juice and eat country crock butter with calcium. I started noticing a difference when I added the calcium supplement!

I will post a message when I find out more info. There are quite a few foods to avoid with Graves'. Another one is soy products! Go figure! I always thought soy was supposed to be good for you!

Take care! Danielle
