Hello. I've noticed that a few of you gals who have Graves Disease are having eye problems. I think I am in there with you. My eyes are really dry and hard to focus sometimes. I don't see double though. It's just like they are a little foggy for a moment. Does meds help that at all or will I have that for the rest of my life. And what does PTU mean?

I have done research and I don't want the RAI. I wanna try the meds first if possible.
Thank you so much for helping me
Kim

I just had my 6 week check-up with my endo last week and he thinks that my right eye is "a little worse than last time" is how he put it. He said that there is nothing that can be done now. We just have to wait and see. I wear contacts and glasses, so I really don't notice much in the way of dry eyes or seeing fuzy. I am used to that anyway.

I have a friend who went a year before getting diagnosed with Graves, her symptons were really bad. Her eyes were also really bulging. It was so bad, that when she had pictures taken, she would squnint her eyes to make them look smaller. She's been on tapazole for a year now and still not regulated completely, however, she is getting better. She says that her eyes are going back to normal without any type of surgery.

I had heard that once your Graves is under control, that your eyes will not go back to normal. That you will need surgery to correct them. I honestly don't know. Is there anyone who knows the answer?

Take care! Danielle

Hi Danielle - I've read that it could go either way regarding your eyes. Sometimes the bulging goes away on it's own and sometimes it doesn't. Cathy :)

I think you can also try steroids or something to get them to stop bulging.

My doctor had mentioned he noticed a little bit of the thyroid syndrome in my eyes, but I didn't really notice until I started a new job right after I was diagnosed and I had to have my picture taken for my ID card. I look like a deer caught in somebody's headlights! My eyes are better now, but I still have to wear that stupid ID card at work.
