Hi Everyone...I haven't posted much lately, but I've been lurking...keeping an eye on everyone! ;)

Anyway, here's my situation...

The PA I've been seeing has been really supportive and my last TSH test was within normal limits (it was like 2.12 or something like that), but since I still felt crappy we agreed we would test the TSH again and even if it was still "normal" we would up my synthroid dosage to see it that helped me feel better.

Well, the nurse called and all she said was "everything's fine"...I called back and told the people in the office that THAT kind of response was NOT ACCEPTABLE! I told them I wanted a copy of the results faxed to me (which I never got) and that I wanted to talk directly to the PA.

The PA and I played phone tag for two days, but we finally talked and at first I thought she was going to blow me off and I jumped the gun and told her that I wanted to see an endocrinologist and that I felt she wasn't going to help me...she told me to let her finish...and she surprised me!!! She changed my synthroid from 125 mcg to 100 mcg and added cytomel 5 mg for the first week, then 10 mg for the next two months. We'll test my TSH again (and see how I'm feeling) after I've done this for about a month and a half!

So...after that I apologized profusely to the PA and told her that I had heard so many stories of doctors treating the numbers and not the people...and that I expected her to do that too, and that at first that sounded like what she was doing. But I now realize that she is going to try to help me! She said she understood and told me that at only 38 years old, I shouldn't feel like crap every day!

Anyway, I'm excited to see how this works...and still feel bad for giving that PA a hard time!

I'm hoping those of you who know much more than I do can tell me if what she did with my meds makes sense to you...those of you who have taken cytomel, has it helped?

So that's my update and I hope someone here can give me some insight about the meds...

Hi Dazed:
I just started .05 Cytomel, too. We can be "buddies..." Let me know if/when/how you notice a difference, OK?
So far (5 days) no change for me...

the buddy thing sounds good to me! :)

I started mine on Saturday...so that's only 4 days for me. I'm worried I might not really notice an improvement much because it's been a strange year so far for me. I had back surgery in February (very unexpected) then had a sinus infection and THEN had the flu and some other lingering infection. All that wore my body out pretty good and I'm just now starting to feel "normal". I still come home from work and pretty much fall asleep by 9 or 10 pm.

The biggest test for me will be my energy level...I'm dying to get back to the gym (even though all I'm allowed to do is walk). Even though I have more energy than I did three weeks ago...I'm not sure how much of that is just finally getting over the flu, the return of spring (FINALLY! LOL!), or the medication...

Hi dazed - I'm not taking cytomel but that sounds like a good plan to me. I think doctors have all kinds of "creative" options that they can use so it's great that she was so open. So what if you yelled!! LOL!! After all the garbage everyone of us takes, a little yelling isn't going to hurt. So what if she didn't deserve it!! LOL! It sounds like she's great. I'm really glad for you! Cathy :)
