Hi, I am really glad to know this board exists, I've already gotten some great information and insight just from reading other posts! I am new to dealing with Thyroid issues, at least on an in-depth level.
Two years ago I was diagnosed with Hypothroidism, a goiter was the first clue for them to check my Thyroid, I had previously been misdiagnosed with Lupus due to positive ANA's. They started me on 75 mcg of Synthroid and I have since gone up to 100 mcgs. I just had my TSH numbers checked in December and I am at 1.05, so in the low normal range. I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto's in December. My main symptoms include fatigue, intolerance to cold, weight gain, muscle weakness, heavier periods and the goiter.
I have a very hard time losing weight despite my TSH level being in the low-normal range. I have an appointment with a nutritionist on January 28th who has worked with patients who suffer with Thyroid problems, but says she has never heard of Hashimoto's before. From what I have read on this board so far, I see that soy products and kelp are not good food products to incorporate into a healthy diet if you suffer from Hypo. Are there any other food groups I should stay away from? Are there other food groups or food products that are particularly healthy or good for people with Hashimotos to incorporate into their diet? I want to go to the Nutritionist with as much information as possible so I can help her to figure out the best course of action for me as far as diet goes. Thanks in advance for any insight and help.
Melanie
