HI, I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS BOARD.... HERE IS A BIT OF HISTORY OF ME ... SHORT FORM
IN 1997 I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THYROID CANCER, HAD SURGERY , REMOVED ALL THYROID AND LYMPH NODES (SP), HAD 3 ROUNDS OF RADIATION TREATMENTS, AND WAS FIEN SINCE. I HAVE OBVIOSLY BEEN ON SYNTHROID EVER SINCE SINCE THE SURGERY.
I HAVE YEARLY CHECK-UPS AT MY ONCOLOGY CENTRE, AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN FINE. UNTIL THIS YEAR. I HAD MY BLOOD WORK DONE TO CHECK MY THYROGLOBULAN, AND TSH. MY APPT IS ON THURSDAY, BUT MY FAMILY DR CALLED ME YESTERDAY ASKING ME IF I HAD AN APPT WITH MY ONCOLOGIST ANYTIME SOON, I TOLD HIM YES, AND HE SAID GOOD, BECAUSE HE HAD THE RESULTS FROM MY TSH AND IT IS 12.9!! hE TOLD ME IT SHOULD BE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN .3 AND 4.0.
I AM A BIT WORRIED, HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE? PLEASE HELP, SHOULD I BE WORRIED?
BELLE

Hi Belle,
Welcome to the board. I don't really know if I can offer you any sound advice or tell you not to be worried. I have never had Thyroid cancer or anything like that. I have had graves disease/hypothyroidism since 1989 and my TSH level has only been normal in all those years only twice.
In fact I just had my TSH level checked a few weeks ago and they say the normal range is between 0.35-5.50 well mine was 76.881. I try not to worry about it too much until I get in to see my Endocrinologist next month.
I just want you to know you are not alone with your high TSH level. Good luck to both of us and anyone else out there with abnornal blood levels.
Hugs,
Carla
Hi Belle,
Welcome to our board.
It sounds as though your med dose might need to be increased.
OHHHH!
So the highr the number, the more "hypo" I am???? lol
I was really confused, I though that it meant he was going to lower my dosages! and I was going to say, because I am sluggish, and FIGHTING an extra 20lbs that won't seem to leave me alone. -
Thanks
Belle
Belle, don't go buying trouble. This could be an indication that your meds need to be changed also, a few other things could enter into the factor as your TSH should be lower and this is known as "suppression therapy"--you should probably be in the .01 or .02 range which will keep you on the edge of being hyper. In 1996 I had a TT also, and have been keep on suppression therapy ever since, and yes, have to go for yearly check-ups plus any problems that may crop up in between. Just a change in your lifestyle could alter your TSH to a degree, and they keep a check on the Thyroglobulin as that is what is known as your Cancer Marker. So, let us know what your endo says when you visit, as he may be able to see and understand what some other dr.s aren't catching. Just try to think positive, and don't let this get you down; at least they are keeping up with your case and aren't letting you slip through the cracks. That's good, and my prayers are with you for a good report. Hugs. Bea
P.S. I want to also mention here something you may not be aware of. If your script has changed brands or the name of the company producing it, or if you were changed from Brand name to a Generic because of what insurance insists, this can change the numbers around. My endo is very sure to write no substitution on my scripts as he said it makes a mess out of the lab work and they have to go through a lot more to straighten things out. If you've noticed a change in your thymeds, bring them in to the endo with both the new bottle and an old bottle to check the differences.
