Just informed by Doctor....

I just met with my Doctor after my bloodwork came back indicating that my Thyroid is Hyperactive. I had been experiencing the classic symptoms of nervousness, feeling moody, weak, tired, heart palpatations, etc. One thing that I've noticed is that I have been frequently waking up a night with feeling really hot and at times, sweating. Is this normal? Or should I be worried there is something more to the picture? I'm new to the world of thyroids and although my Doctor indicated mine isn't severe enough to need medication, I am worried and want to stay informed. Any information you can provide to me would be very helpful and appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Hi Orange044,

Welcome to our board!

I also am hyperthyroid so I understand the symptoms you're having.

Thank you both for getting back to me. I am requesting a copy of my lab work so I will know exactly what was what. All I can remember is that my TSH levels were "low." I have to go back to the lab in three weeks (four weeks from last time I met with him). I have not seen an endochronologist as it wasn't recommended to do so. I guess I will inquire after next blood work comes back. Just thought it was awkward to be suffering the same symptoms my older counterparts that I work with are going through because of menopause! I am only 28! I did read that I could have sensitivity to heat so I assume that could indeed to be a problem. My Doctor also told my thyroid seems to act up and show signs of hyperactivity whenever I am under a great deal of stress or experience sudden life changes. The last time this occurred was four years ago, so it's been quite a span since I experienced all this. Thank you for your information and I will certainly be in touch once I can really look at the levels myself.

Hi Stacey! I highly recommend seeing an endo! They are specially trained to deal with the thyroid and I have found to be much more helpful. I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease last year (type of hyperthyroid) and my levels are in normal range now. I understand with the sensivity to heat! And yes, it is related to the thyroid. Graves' Disease can definately be brought on by stress. They are not really sure what causes it, but high stress can be a factor.

Also, always asked to have your blood test results sent to you. That way it is easier to keep track of your levels!

Take care and good luck with everything!
