Yikes!
I just read a most passionate plea made by Dr. Barry Durrant-Peatfield (2004) against fluoridating drinking water in the UK... I found it particularly alarming because my pediatrician has been recommending fluoridated drinking water for my daughter since birth! Having just completed a chemistry class, I was rattled by the explanation of how the flouride displaces iodine in the body and causes not only thyroid failure but autoimmune dysfunction as well, because it seems a reasonable theory. The author's point is that those who tout the safety of fluoridated driking water are relying on the idea that it is in small enough doses as to be safe, but he states that the thyroid damaging effects "can occur at extraordinary low concentrations; even lower than one part per million..."

I figure the ship has sailed with my thyroid, but I'm always interested in how I might promote my daughter's thyroid health...
Take care,
Dee.

Hi Dee! I'm not too sure about fluoride for thyroid issues. But, my mom is a dental hygenist and my dad is a dentist and they are very adiment (I can't spell tonight, sorry!) that my kids drink fluoridated water! The dentist my mom worked for during my first pregnancy told me that while pregnant, I should be drinking fluoridated water! Because the baby is forming all of his/her teeth in the womb. This only came up when he saw me drinking a bottled water! I would not stop giving your daughter fluoridated water!
This is a very interesting debate! Thank you for the information! I will check out the article! This is also a good question for everyone's endo! Even though they have different opinions about things!
Take care! Danielle
