Side Effects from a New Thyroid Med?
| Thu, 04-13-2006 - 10:53am |
Hi everyone,
In chat last night we discussed switching your thyroid hormone replacement med and the possibility of having side effects from the new med. If your insurance doesn't cover your old med and changes it, do you have to accept it or what have you done?
For example, what if you got switched from synthroid to levoxyl?
Let us know if you've had any adverse reactions.

My Dr. put me on 75mcg of Synthroid to start. After a couple of weeks I started having horrible reactions to it-racing heart, tunnel vision, welt-type hives. She switched me to 25mcg of Levoxyl, then after retest, upped it to 50mcg.
After being switched to Levoxyl, I noticed an improvement in my heart rate, tunnel vision and sleep disturbances.
I have noticed since being on thyroid meds, I have extreme carb cravings and I'm alot more sensitive to sugar. Also work outs are getting harder to get through (you would think they would get easier)because I seem to develop shortness of breath that I didn't before.
I have pretty good prescription insurance,so the price is the same for either, but I don't think thyroid medicine is usually very expensive.

Hi Dana,
That's quite a reaction to the Synthroid.
