hot flashes?

Hi. I take synthroid (levoxyl) for hypothyroidism. My TSH has always been normal, which is why I walked around for YEARS undiagnosed. It wasn't until I did a lot of research and specifically asked my MD to check my Free T3 & T4 that I was diagnosed. I know this means my pituitary is asleep on the job, but as I have no other symptoms & synthroid has helped both with T3 and T4 levels and my symptoms, that's the way we're treating it.
Okay -- that's the background. I am 35 and I keep getting hot flashes -- yeah, they're really hot flashes. They're not tied to the temperature of the room & heat seems to come from me... they're awful. Someone said this might be thyroid related.
Anyone ever heard of that??

Yep!! It could very well be thyroid related. It also may not technically be hot flashes but very similar to that....caused by your thyroid.
I have had horrible hot flashes since starting on levoxyl. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and the flashes/night sweats I've gotten in the last 4 months are definately not the same as menopause flashes.
My skin will turn beat red(head to toe)I will start sweating buckets. My Dr. thinks its because I'm not taking estrogen replacement. I haven't been on it for a year, this is something that has only started since starting thyroid meds.
Its very annoying and I think thyroid related.

Hi Niknudstunod,
Just wanted to say "hi" again and thank you for chatting with us last night.
I can relate to the heat factor since that's my life story - hot when others are cool or cold.
It was nice chatting with you guys, as well!
I am going to call my dr., get a lab work slip and go get my levels checked. I have been hesitant -- I spent so much time feeling so lousy because of the hypo... am afraid of getting back there (and it takes me a while to adjust to a new dosage). But the hot flashes are still an issue, so I'm going to move on it.
Thanks so much for the advice!
