Hello,
My name is Claudia, I've been a poster in the Aug 05 Sunbeams. I have been living with Hashimoto's for the last eight years. After my son was born last year, I mistakenly stopped taking my medication. I felt fine and had so many things going on that I didn't pay attention to my body and didn't follow up on my bloodwork and meds. A few months ago I started getting back some of the symptoms along side with some new ones, so two weeks ago I made an appt. to see my doctor. I did my blood work and told him about the new symptoms, lightheadedness, hard time concentrating, short term memory, I also started stumbling with my words and was having a hard time in conversations ( which I never did before ) I was also having some problems physically. He ran some test did an MRI. When I went back to his office for the results, he explained to me that I might want to consider having my thyroid removed and that with the MRI, it seemed that I was suffering from some damage to my heart, brain and intestines. He said that it's very rare, but that I might be suffering from a diffrent form of Hashimoto's or auto immune disorder. He did some futher test, but he won't have the results to those until next week. In the mean time he uped my meds and scheduled me to so see a speak therapiest and physical therapiest, and to write down any other symptoms I might have.So my question would be. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Or know of this? Or maybe were I can get some information on this? I would greatly appreciate it. TIA

Hi Devi05,

I don't have Hashi's so I'm not an expert in this area but I would agree with April about getting a second opinion once you get all the test results.

Well, I got my results from my first visit and since have been on 200mg of Levoxyl for the Hashi's. As far as visits with the specialist I went too and the results he found is that on top of the thyroid form of Hashi's I have Hashimoto's Encephalopathy. So he wants to start me with a low dose of steroids. The specialist told me that there are 32? cases studies of this, so they are going by that. Has anyone hear of Hashi's Encephalopathy ( I don't know if I am spelling it correctly ) or anyone here suffer from that? They want to start me on the steroids to see how it responds to it and if that doesn't work they have to figure out another course of action. Does that sound right? With everything I've heard from both doctors, it doesn't sound like something that should be taken lightly. I am just going to be there guina pig?
