I just found this board - but as you can see since I have a siggy I am not new to IVillage : )
My story...I basically felt like crap for a few years...tired and couldn't loose weight no matter what I did. My periods were way out of wack...really didn't have them! Dh and I tried to conceive for about a year and then I was put on clomid. With that and progesterone my cycles were 50-65 days long. I finally conceived and felt great! minus the major m/s. I was not tired at all and actually only gained 10 lbs the whole pregnancy and that was in the last two weeks from water weight. I could tell by the way clothes fit that I actually lost while pregnant. I felt great up until the beginning of feb when I stopped breastfeeding. I was 35 lbs less than when I got pregnant and feeling pretty good. Since I stopped bf'ing, I feel like crap again. I am angry a lot (not like me!), tired all the time but not sleepy, I have put on 25 lbs in four months, major brain fog. I seriously felt so much better when I was getting no sleep and just had a c-section after 24 hours of labor!
Well, I went to the doctor with all of this. He runs blood work. Comes back that my TSH is 15 and my cholesterol is high (I am 30). Did a MRI on my brain for the brain fog and that came back fine. He tells me he wants to run more tests in 6 weeks to see if it gets better on its own. And wants to look further into clinical depression. I about hit the roof. I know my body and I know something is wrong and it is hormonal! I convinced him to get some sort of treatment started and then check my blood work again in 6 weeks to see if it is helping. Honestly, I will be able to tell him if its not working - don't need to test my blood! He has started me on 25 mcg of sythroid (generic version). After looking into the T4 and T3 stuff online and armour, I am not sure what he is doing is going to do anything.
I really think I need to see someone else. Do I see an endocrinologist? What should I look for in choosing one? Any advice/personal stories are greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for 'listening'!
