Hi I never thought I would find myself on this board before today but here I am, lol. A couple of weeks ago I had some routine blood work and my thyroid checked again. I didn't think much of it since I have had it checked before a few times and had gotten a chest x-ray and CBC done in March. Well a few days ago I got a call from my doctor's office to make an appointment ASAP to discuss the results of my tests. Then today I got a letter in the mail from the hospital saying that they had me scheduled for two days of testing: first a thyroid uptake and scan, ultrasound and then another thyroid uptake and scan the second day.
So I called the doctor's office and talked to the nurse and she pulls my chart and says I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She briefly explains what the test are but I probably learned more about what to expect from reading the previous posts here and from checking online. I'm kind of surprised that they ordered up all this already and I have to admit I'm a little concerned. It does however explain why I've had this pain in my chest and why I'm always short of breath. I also have Fibromyalgia and I know that hypo-thyroidism usually mimics FMS but it's not very common for a person to have both FMS and hyperthyroidism.
I'm adopted and I remember my adoptive mom had thyroid cancer when I was in my early teens but I don't remember what her symptoms were and I can't ask her since I lost her 2 years ago. I recently met my biological mom and sisters and it turns out that thyroid disease runs in our family. My sister and my bio mom have problems with it and my maternal grandmother has Grave's Disease and it has basically destroyed her thyroid according to my bio mom. So that will be something for me to mention to my doctor at my appointment next week.
So can anyone give me some suggestions or explain a little more of what I should expect when I go for the tests next month? TIA!

Hi pauliesgirl, welcome!
Hi Jen,
Welcome to our board.
Your story sounds a little like mine since I have hyperthyroidism due to a multi-nodular goiter.
