I have been wanting to see an endocrinologist about a thyroid issue. My doctor just isn't taking me seriously. I posted a bit about this a few weeks ago. He wants to wait to see if I get better on my own (tsh levels were around 15) and then wants to look into depression...not the problem!!!!!! I convinced him not to make me wait another six weeks and to get things started. He put me on 25mgs of synthroid. Um, not doing anything. I know, I need to wait a month or so for the real effects. Anyway, I love my ob, so I thought I would call her to see who she recommends. The doc she said is booked until the middle of sept and the earliest I can get in to see one of her colleagues is July 28th! Ugh, I can't take this anymore! The weight just keeps piling on and I feel stupid all the time because I just cannot focus! Not to mention being tired! I just wondered if it was normal to take so long to get in to see an endo.
Thanks for listening to me complain! What would I do without this board!

Hi Thenri,
I have read from others on this board that they have to wait quite a while to get in to see an endoc. also.
Hi Calley7 : )
Thank you for responding. I am going to call tomorrow to see if I can be put on a cancellation list. The doctor available in July is one of the others colleagues, so I am hoping she is good too. I was thinking of calling some other places to see if I can get in earlier, but still keeping my other appointment just in case I am not happy with them.
I hear that a tsh level over 5 is abnormal...what do most people have that seem to have a thyroid problem. My regular doctor didn't seem like that was the issue. He sent me for a MRI on my brain because I have been having major brain fog. Didn't connect that, high cholesterol (I am 30), angry a lot (not normal for me), no menstrual

I think it's standard to wait a long time to see a specialist. I think you are on the right track asking to be called if there's a cancellation. Every GP I have been to tells me I don't need an endo, and I have not been to one, but what if you explained all this to your OB, showed her the test results and asked for her intercession on meds if she agrees? She may be able to get you going on a higher dose in the meantime.
Side point ... do you consume a lot of soy products? I used to until I read that they counteract the hypothyroid meds. At this time, it might be prudent to limit them until you get this straightened out. Hang in there! I have just been through this recently with a dose change ... in some respects I could feel a difference in 3 days but largely, it took about 3 months before I felt significantly better. I hate to say this ... but I have never found that the weight comes off easily after the thyroid level is adjusted. Good luck!
Hi,
