I overcame Hyperthyroidism w/o medicine

Hi all,

I am 29/F and was diagnosed with Graves disease. My doctor told me that I would be on medication all of my life with this disease. I decided to try healing my body on my own because I figured what the heck! If this doesn't work, I can always go back to the doctor, take RAI and get on medication for life. So the last 3 months have been a tough three-four months but I am happy to say my thyroid is no longer giving me any trouble. I sleep like a baby(i.e. able to sleep 8-10 hrs straight again) and my heart rate is finally back to what it was when I was in high school, nice solid heart rate. I run 2 miles and do pilates 3x per week. I don't feel tired, my eyes don't feel funny, no heart palpitations, severe buldging stomach and cramping, hot flashes, my hair stopped falling out. I thought I would remember all my symptoms but I can't remember what all was wrong with me because I feel great now! Anyway, if anyone would be interested in finding out the details of what I've done I would be glad to tell you. I thought about charging money (going to school getting my certificate, etc) but I felt like God blessed me with an understanding and it would be selfish of me not to share my new found knowledge with those who are also struggling with their health. Plus not everyone is the same so what worked for me may not work for you in the same way, although I really believe what I've done is universally correct for the human body in general.

I do understand that if you've had it for years, there may already be a lot of damage done that is irrepairable (in a few cases). The amazing thing about this whole process is that it didn't take long for my health to spring forth because the body is amazing and is ready and willing to do what it takes to get better, we just have to help it along. (It doesn't hurt that I am in my 20's just about to enter my 30's). The things I did to heal my thyroid put me in a size 0 jean pant. And boy, i've NEVER...EVER... been a size 0-2. I am usually a size 4-9 depending on the year and pant style. My twin sister saw me for the first time in months and couldn't stop raving for a whole day about how unusually healthy I looked and that I look better now than in high school. (Me and my twin were athletes, never overweight so that is a HUGE compliment). Anyway, feel free to ask questions if you are interested in restoring your health naturally.

Sincerely,
Michelle

First of all congratulations on the no meds and it has worked.

I was just diagnosed with Hyper.. what the heck is up with that. My only symptoms were menstrual cycle was every 15 days, and I have been tired. (which I thought was from my cycle making me tired)my weight hasn't changed I'm 32 years 5'6 and weigh 120lbs. I would love to find out your treatment w/o meds.

I have yet to start my medication. I am waiting to talk with the Doctor and she is gone for a couple of days. What have you all experienced with this. I feel like I'm the only one that has it!

Thank you all for listening ... I hope to hear from you about the no meds solution.

My email is as follows: olsonhoyt@juno.com

Thank you!

Hello! I am sorry to take so long to respond! My sister was in town for a month and I didn't have time to write you all but I didn't forget to come back. Here is what I did:

*Avoid coffee and other injurious substances forever. It directly impacts those with thyroid.

I used a tincture, a compound of bugleweed and motherwort for a couple-few weeks. Bugleweed rids the body of heavy minerals like iodine out of your body. A lot of heavy minerals are found in our drinking water. The motherwort slows your heart rate down which is nice. It can also stimulate your uterus so I made sure to drink Red Raspberry leaf tea (no caffeine just the dried cut flower) which relaxes your uterus, smoothes and tones your female organs and is full of iron and calcium, and much much more. It's a tonic so you can drink it every day the rest of your life and it's good for you. (the bugleweed motherwort you would do for a little while and stop)The iron in red raspberry is high. Your blood requires iron to carry oxygen to the cells in your body. If you don't have enough iron in your blood you don't get enough oxygen to your cells and they die. (And no the doctors don't pick up on that on their machines because the machines measure on severity vs. normal)

I cut out diary because it's loaded with salt and saturated fat. Over consumption of saturated fat is directly connected to heart disease and thyroid is a heart disease problem as well, because it affects your heart. So stay away from saturated fats. When I stopped eating dairy my bulging stomach and muscle aches and spasms went away. The Red Raspberry leaf tea also helped with my aching muscles.

I cut out meat because as a family we were eating meat at least 2 times a day. Meat is loaded with saturated fat and clogs the system up. I do not encourage you to abstain from meat altogether. I still eat meat but I eat high quality meat SPARINGLY. Whatever the animal is subject to you are as well. So if the animal has a low quality life and is given antibiotics and hormones and you eat that animal your putting that unclean meat in your body and all the hormones and antibiotics. Animals strengthen and warm the body so you'll want to eat them primarily in the winter and enjoy the protein from the vegetables in season right now. Even in the winter you should eat meat sparingly because they are very dense with nutrients and eating too much will congest the body and make you sluggish and cause disease.

I now eat whole grains mostly sprouted whole grains. As soon as I stopped worrying about weight and ate sprouted grains I started sleeping at night. Grains are the closest food to your physical makeup. They help you feel centered and balanced and help you sleep at night. Most grains should be soaked over night to start the germination process making it easier to digest. When grains are sprouted they are even better. The protein turns to amino acids and the vitamin content in them goes way up, rendering them much more digestible. Refined whole grain wheat (whole wheat flour) is good every once in awhile but on a regular basis sprouted whole grains are the best because they are so easily digestible. I buy the brand, "Ezekiel 4:9" instead of making bread myself. They make sprouted tortillas, pastas and breads. You should eat grains at every meal. Grains do not make you fat, they actually decrease waist to hip body mass. In fact, grains are the most important food you could eat. If I eat cookies I make them with spelt flour and oats because they are much easier to digest then wheat flour.

My heart was very weak due to the back to back pregnancies as a result of a congested colon and intestines. I started walking around the track and after a month I ran 2 laps and now I'm running 4 laps. I don't overdue it but I just make sure to go fast enough so that my heart is pumping for 15-20 minutes. My heart muscle is much stronger. 4 months ago I could barely walk because my heart was so weak. Just be careful never to overdo it and go slow if you have to.

Cayenne pepper is very good for your heart. If you feel your heart beating fast sprinkle Cayenne on your stir fry's because it is excellent for circulation and for your heart. I now have an herb garden. I use herbs a lot when I cook, especially basil. They have several healing properties.

I eat whatever vegetables are in season. Right now we have cucumbers (too many) and zucchini, summer squash, peas, carrots, eggplant, and corn for grain. Look up the nutritional value for these vegetables. You will be amazed at what these vegetables do for your body. Couple the vegetables with sprouted whole grains at every meal. Eat vegetables raw and cooked. For instance if I make a sandwich, right now I would throw cucumbers and zucchini in it raw. Raw still has enzymes in it to help break down food. I also cook them in stir-fry’s.

Beans and legumes help regulate glucose metabolism, produce slow rise in blood sugar, and calm energy, and reduce risk of heart problems. Also reduces cholesterol. Make sure to soak beans over night (cover them with water and soak over night) because if they aren't properly prepared by soaking them for 8-24 hours to release acids, gas-causing enzymes and trisaccharides. Their fibers need to soften and soaking them makes them more digestible. I make hummus, black bean burritos, etc. Eat them with grains like sprouted whole grain wraps to form a complete protein.

I do unrefined sea salt and seaweed for an abundance of needed minerals. Only eat those 3 x a week at the most because they are dense in these nutrients but your thyroid needs this to function. I wouldn't do it until after you've done the bugleweed motherwort tincture and cleaned the heavy minerals out of your body first...then slowly like once a week incorporate wakame, dulse or some other seaweed. And, go easy on the salt. I use to eat a lot of salt but now I use sea salt pretty sparingly in comparison to the way I cooked in the past.

I sprinkle raw nuts on my salads...nuts and seeds are a must for good health. I sprinkle flaxseeds on my salads and whenever I can because they are full of essential fatty acids.
Also, I eat a lot of olive oil and other oils. I do sesame (sparingly because of its rich flavor) and sunflower oil.

Another thing is do not overload your stomach. I usually wait 7-8 hours between lunch and dinner and I never let myself get over full, just satisfied.

Finally, the body is amazing. I thank God everyday for this gift because that's what it is--a gift. I don't take it lightly. I didn't make or design my own body. It was simply given to me by God, with the help of my progenitors, of course! He designed it and created it, it's complicated and intricate and I only know the basics of how it functions. I've always known this even before I got sick but it wasn't until I was sick that I really began to appreciate my body as a gift... That it is not something to be taken lightly or to be used carelessly. (A couple of you have mentioned "why am I going through this" a lot of the time we don't even realize WHAT we are doing wrong and HOW to change) I've learned that if I want to have optimum health I can not do whatever I WANT with my body WHEN I WANT because there are laws that we all must follow if we are to have good health. As soon as we break those "laws," we may lose our health. God knows how the body functions so he has provided many means for us to heal when we get sick without having to cut out an organ or needing ongoing meds. Rarely are those things required if the disease doesn't get the best of us first.

Our bodies are VERY forgiving. You can see that it is in your power to have health and longevity in your life. If you indulge yourself in the use of injurious substances or overload the stomach with too much or even a little with non-nutritious food, you will lay the foundation of disease and death...and the same is committed to your children and another generation of feeble human beings is introduced into the world.

So there is only so much you can read in one sitting. Please feel free to ask questions or tell me your symptoms and I will do my best to help you figure out what you are lacking. Also, I’ve been working closely with a lady who is a certified herbal master and herbs are good if you use them with prudence and good judgement.

I do need to know more about your symptoms individually in order to help so feel free to ask me any questions. I've also got great recipes! I enjoy cooking and eating. I enjoy food much more now then I use too. My email is smbutler25@frontiernet.net Make sure to include the subject line so that I don’t think you are spam!

I hope this helps!

I forgot my P.S.,

I eat wholesome food on a regular basis but having good health doesn't mean you have to be absolutely perfect all of the time. My husband and I go out to eat at least twice a month and I try to make healthy dinner choices even when I go out but I make sure to enjoy myself when we go out and even eat dessert. Also when we are invited over to a friend's for dinner or to other family members I eat whatever they make and I enjoy it! If people ask me what I'm doing I'll be glad to tell them. It happend the other day. BUT, when you are first starting out and you are sick you'll do anything to get well. That's the time to be perfect. Your body needs that time to heal and clean itself. It only took a few weeks to a month of being perfect until my health came back. It was amazing! Now I maintain my health with whole some delicious food on a regular basis and enjoy going out as well!
