Hello I'm Laurie. It's been a while since the last time I posted. I am hypo and I have been trying to loose weight for some time now. I have been doing Weight Watchers but that isn't helping at all! I loose .6 lbs and then stall!!
Is there a certain diet out there that might work better for people who have Hypo Thyroid disease???
I'm really getting depressed here. I went to WW this morning and stayed the same!! I've been so good and even walking 30-45 minutes a day and doing some light weights!!
It's just so frustrating!!!!!!!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Laurie

laurie,
i feel your pain. i have thyroid cancer/and am hypo. i gained 35lbs in like 4 months right before i was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.i can't afford to do anything like weight watchers. after 2 surgeries and radiation therapy plus having my synthroid upped 3 times to where i am now on 150mcg a day and my doc keeps telling me give it time and the weight will 'fall' off once he gets my dosage right. what makes it so bad is that i have no appetite, so i don't eat and when i do eat i usually throw up anyway, but yet i am not losing the weight!
i know that with having cancer, my weight may seem like a trivial issue, but i feel horrible physically as it is and now i look horrible with this extra 35 pounds weighing me down.
i go back to see my doc on the 4th of aug and i am going to talk with him about this again because having cancer is hard enough, lol!

Hi Laurie,

Welcome back.

I don't know if you have read any books on thyroid conditions but maybe these ideas can help with your weight questions.

Living Well With Hypothyroidism by Mary Shomon (revised edition 2005)

The Thyroid Diet - Manage Your Metabolism

I'm so sorry to hear about your cancer!! I had a nodule removed in 2001 and it was benign thankfully. It's still scrary though. You never know if a another nodule could be cancerous. I hope everything turns out well for you and wish you luck in becoming healthy!!!
Take Care!!
Laurie

I know exactly how you feel, in fact I have gained weight since starting thyroid meds. According to my Dr since I'm only subclinical I shouldn't be having weight problems.

I work out 5 days a week, eat about 1300-1400 calories(balanced as possible) drink lots of water--NOTHING!!!

Both my general doctor and endcrinologist said eat less and exercise more. Thanks for the advice! =-( The endo did up my dose a little.

I need to check out the books that were mentioned. Good luck.

Hi Laurie - I too know your frustration. I am 5'3 and weighed 184lbs. I tried weight watchers, and vegetarian etc. etc., you name it I tried it. I take 224mgs of synthroid and was recently prescribed altace for high blood pressure. The blood pressure stemming from the thyroid. I could not lose weight to save my soul. What I did lose was a lot of money. I started a new diet on May10 of this year and have lost 21 lbs. It is called simply for life and it is a diet accustomed to my medical conditions, likes and dislikes. It is all about food combination and eating every three hours. It is personalized and based on me. I am very happy with my success, and feel wonderful. More than I have in a long time. You can read about it on simplyforlife.com, I don't know if it's only good in canada though. I am now 163 lbs. It is taking me a heck of a lot slower than most, because of this wonderful condition, but people that are "normal" lose it really fast. My co-worker lost 55 lbs in the same amount of time. She looks like a different person, and the results are amazing. If you want to know more information contact me at my hotmail address as I won't check this often. traceyjenkins56@hotmail.com I don't mind. I know and feel your frustration. Tracey.
