I was recently in to the Dr's because of suspected pleurisy ( I am having a hard time breathing and major chest pain)and a tachichardia (130 for over an hour and intense nausea) and slight arrythmia. While investigating the Dr. thought she felt some nodules on my thyroid and has done blood tests and scheduled an ultrasound. This is the third time this year they have tested and all came back normal the first two but I seem to have all the signs because they keep testing it and now my heart is acting up. Anyway.... has anyone had anything similar with repeated testing? Another thing is that I do seem to have an enlarged thyroid.... I also wake up extremely hot and sweaty in the middle of the night to the point where ive turned the A/C so cold that I shiver when i go to bed because i know it will happen. My heart beats fast sometimes for no reason resting and active and i have a bit of a hand tremor, I guess i should mention that im a 22 yr old female that probably makes a difference. A side note if this is pleurisy the treatment (lots of fluids and advil) isnt working.

Hi Jen_222006,

Welcome to our board.

The symptoms you mentioned can be connected to a thyroid problem - usually hyperthyroidism.

I am in the same situation that you are. I have thyroid symptoms, tremors, weight gain, fatigue, and an enlarged thyroid with nodules that they can feel and see in the thyroid scans, but everytime I go in with the symptoms they test for thyroid and say that I come back within normal limits. I tried to say - what if it is not normal for me? I know people who normally have a lower body temperature 97 degrees so for them 99 is a fever, it may not be a fever for someone who is normally 98.6 but it is for them - the doctors were not too impressed with my logic.

Good luck!

Well, got my results back, only did the TSH but it was normal 2.6 though FEB it was 2.9 and last June was 3.3 My ultrasound came back positive, they think its just a small cyst. The Dr. seems to think this could not possibly cause any problems whatsoever and it is all in my head. I asked about a full thyroid panel and she flat out refused and got defensive. I have an appt coming up with my normal GP (she was a fill in) and will take it up with him. Thanks for the replies i guess i have to wait and see.

Hi Jen_222006,

It's a good idea to get back with your regular doctor since he/she knows your patient history better.

Hi Jen,My granddaughter had many of your same symptons.
She was away at college;when she started having problems.

They put her through all kinds of tests. All the Drs kept saying it was stress.
It didn't seem to matter that she was having seizures, with racing heart. She was always better by the time she was rushed to ER.

My Daughter had enough. She had her pcm run blood test. They found she had 1 thyroid that wasn't working..and the other was over working. They removed both and put her on synthroid.

She is doing great now, finished college.

My Mother had Thyroid problems. She had to have radiation. My oldest sister had to have 2 nodules taken out on 2 seperate occasions. Not Cancerous though.

Now I am going next week in hopes that they take my nodules out. As I am having a very hard time.Coughing, shortness of breath, chocking on food and weakness. So keep after them to help you.

We all need someone to talk to. If you do? you can feel free to email me.

Good Luck and take care
