subclinical hyperthyroid & ttc, anyone?

Hello.  I just found this board yesterday.  I've been trying to conceive for going on 16 months now.  Had b/w done in June and found my TSH was low (0.06), had a full panel done and everything else was normal.  My PCP sent me to a endocrinologist who said I have "subclinical hyperthyroidism" and will eventually develop Graves (most likely).  My father and 1 sister have had it and had the RAI.  The endo says to watch it.  My thyroid felt "firm" but not enlarged and he doesn't feel this is affecting my fertility.  I'm supposed to have my TSH and free T4 done again end of next month and see him in October again to see if anything has changed.  My PCP is unhappy with this.  She feels this is my fertility issue and that I should just have the RAI and be done with it.  I'm okay with waiting to see if my levels have improved or declined next month.

What I'm wondering is if anyone else has been in this position.  Should I just wait on everything until my levels are back next month?  If I need the RAI I will have to wait at least 6 months from then to ttc again.  Then again I also don't want anything to negatively affect the fetus once I eventually do get pregnant.  And if I need the RAI I am only putting off pregnancy longer anyway.

Any opinions or advice would be helpful.  TIA

Hi Diana,

I am in a similar situation. I have been diagnosed with subclinical hypo (TSH was at 5.2) after my dh and I had been ttc just under a year. Through Syntroid I have been able to bring TSH down to 1.78 but still have no period (I have not had one since March) My dr said she is willing to slightly increase dosage to try to get me closer to a 1...anyone out there have an opinion? I feel fine but my only symptom has ever been my infertility which is still a problem. So I'm not sure what to do...

Thanks,
Steph

Hi Diana,

Welcome to our board.

I'm not an expert but I might agree with your PCP and think the infertility could be coming from the hyperthyroidism.
