kind of confused

We just got done with my 20 year old daughter's thyroid scan and now I am confused. She will not be talking to the doctor until tomorrow, so really not sure what everything means yet. Here is what has happened so far: She has a background of some nerve and musculoskeletal problems for which she has been treated. Without going into depth, these problems resulted in a lot of nerve conduction tests, MRIs, CT scans, and x-rays, and thoracic surgery. Problems mostly throughout grade school and middle school age. She had a baby by c-section in February 2006, gaining a lot of weight. Weight started coming off in inital months following surgery, but fatigue set in, and she started gaining weight and having other thyroid symptoms. Blood work showed low functioning thyroid, ultrasound showed "nodules" with enlarged thyroid on one side. At the scan today they said they want her to come back tomorrow for a check 24 hours out from the radioactive pill because it is showing function too high. They also "took pictures" of the nodules and the radiologist will have to read them, so we do not know yet what those "pictures" mean. Here is my question: Can thyroid function swing between HYPER and HYPO? She has symptoms of HYPO. Doctor told her cancer needed to be ruled out. Without a firm diagnosis yet it is very hard to prepare for what to do next. She is so fatigued and I feel bad for her. Has anyone else had any experience similiar or heard of it?? I am hoping that she will be referred to an endocrinologist now.

Hi Mom_jsrsmom,
You could swing between hypo and hyper if you're on meds and your dose is too high or low.
HI there,
