Need help...have some ?'s

I have been convinced for several years that I am suffering from hypothyroidism. Some things you just know, right? Plus, I have been experiencing most,if not all, of the symptoms. Two years ago I mentioned it to my Dr., she did a TSH test and it came back as a 2. something ( on a scale of 0.35-4.94)- so, of course, even with my symptoms there was nothing they would do. I had a hysterectomy about 8 yrs. ago and so it's very easy to blame the weight gain, depression, fatigue and so on on the estrogen. So, I stop taking synthetic estrogen and switch to herbal. Again, my symptoms of hypo. are still there and mildy progressing to memory loss ( losing what Im saying mid sentance), cold intolerance, dry, dry, dry skin. So, I go to the new Dr. ( we are military and the Dr.s here are forever changing, it's very difficult to see a consistant Dr.)- explain everything, he does another TSH test. This time it comes back 3.55 (same scale)- he sais, yeah, it's a little high, and you do have some thickness around your neck where your thyroid is, but don't worry about it. I asked him if I could just try the medication and see if it helps. He said No, it could hurt you rather than help you. My friend has offered me her Synthroid that she no longer takes, but Im afraid that it could hurt me. Im so frusterated that nobody is listening to me and taking this seriously. Is it just me? Maybe I am fine- but I know that Im not. I was right when I knew something was wrong with my son, when for 3 yrs. he just wasn't right...and nobody could pinpoint anything. I studied, investigated and finally asked them to do a Lyme Disease test. They literally told me I was a hysterical mother but they would humour me by doing the test (just to get rid of me, Im sure)- well, don't ya know....Lyme was screaming positive...and because of the time it took to get them to test, it has gone into the later and more lasting phase. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get someone to take me seriously? Any help would be great!!!
Thanks,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
Welcome to our board.
Considering how well you researched and figured out what was wrong with your son, I'd definitely be inclined to go with your "gut" feelings on what might be causing your symptoms.
Hi Stephanie,
I'm a bit frustrated over this crazy hypothyroidism too! I've been on Synthroid for well over a year and I don't feel any better than the day I was diagnosed w/it--in fact, if anything, I feel worse!!! So I can relate to your sense of frustration. And when you try to talk to a medical person, they act as if you're from another planet. I tell you, it just doesn't make sense to me. I don't have ANY health insurance so I have to save up my money when I do go to the Dr. and then it doesn't do me any good. What are we gonna do? I just want to feel better, is that asking too much? I'm sure you are tired of the run-around you are getting, you sound like you have a good head on your shoulders but can't get anybody to take you seriously.
I just joined this Board, so I think you people are gonna be my shoulders to cry on .... I hope you don't get sick of me!!! Thanks for listening, and hang in there, Stephanie, it's got to get better!
Gloria
