Newly dx'd with a Hyperthyroid & Scared
| Sun, 08-20-2006 - 10:38am |
I'm 46 and was dx'd 6 weeks ago with a Hyperthyroid by my PCP based on one test result-TSH 0.0006! Referred to Endo and went last Thursday-palpitated the thyroid, took routine vitals, presribed propranolol (beta blocker), ordered full blood work and a Thyroid Scan & Uptake.
The Scan is Tuesday and I'd like to know what to expect. I'm very nervous about this whole thing! If anyone has experienced this test, please respond with details. Asking for prayers and positive thoughts!

hi
i have had a scan and ultrasound done. if the scan your going to have is what i had it does not hurt. i went to the hospital one day and took a pill and then went to the hospital the next day at the very same time as when i went to take the pill. i sat in this chair and this machine to the side of me had an arm on it and it scanned my thyroid, then i had to go and lay on a bed and a camera came down pretty close to my face and they took a couple of pictures, my head was tilted back. and then just last week i had an ultra sound done, that does not hurt either, it is like an ultra sound when your pregnant.
good luck let me know how it goes.

Hi Desinda2006,
Welcome to our board.
The tests you will be having are fairly standard procedure and they will help your doctor determine just how your thyroid is functioning.
HI desinda,
