HELP for my son

I need help for my son. He is 12 years old, and I think he has a thyroid condition.
The doctor that tested him says no, but he so many symptoms, I can't figure it out.
He is about 5'3, and about 190 pounds. He eats healthy, exercised regularly, and can't seem to drop the weight. The rest of our family is not overweight. His TSH was 5.78. Doctor said that was ok? He has dry, brittle hair, and dry skin, with scaly patches. He is never cold, always warm. Also has what I consider a buffalo hump on upper back, a large fatty pad. He has striae on stomach and thighs. My sister has PCOS, my grandmother had a thyroid condition, unknown to me, and my niece had to have her parathyroid removed. Also my toher son has juvenile arthritis. Don't know if there is a connection. I don't know what to do, or what to try to help him. Can someone please help???
Thank You!!!!

I agree with April on getting a referral to an endocrinologist, as this is their specialty and they will test further than most PCs. Your son is young, and it would be good to get all this straightened out while young--even though it could be a lifelong maintenance program, and just checking it out yearly if all gets straightened out, it will be well worth it and your son will feel better about the whole thing also. Thank You so much for answering me! The doctor was an endocrinologist. There was no T3 or T4 result, at least not that I was given. I forgot to mention he also has gynecomastia.
His blood pressure was 138/94 at the office, and other results I was given are:
FTI 3.5, and 24 hour urine cortisol was 37.9 mcg. AST was 89, and ALT was 120.
HCG was less than 0.5 miu/ml. FSH undetectable, prolactin is 2.9 ng/ml and estradiol was 15 pg/ml and testosterone less than 0.1
This is very confusing to me, and i just have the doctors word, that these are all normal, or COULD be normal. If anyone knows what all these mean, I would be very grateful.
Thanks AGain..

Hi Apmobus,

Welcome to our board.

I would agree with Bea and April about getting the full testing for the thyroid.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything natural to try to help for possible hypothyroidism or cushings? Didn't know if there were vitamins, or possibly diet that could help?
Any input is appreciated! Thank You!! PAM
