Hi ladies, I'm new here and need a little help. I've been having issues with nodules on my thyroid since November when I discovered a lump in my neck. After seeing my Dr and having an u/s of my thyroid she recommended I see an endocrinologist and have a nuclear scan because they found 4 nodules. One of the nodules was 4 cm's. I had the nuclear scan in December, the large nodule was "cold" and I had to have a fine needle biospy. The DR was able to drain the nodule down to pretty much nothing. Luckily, the biopsy was negative.
In April I discovered that I could feel it again, by the time I had another u/s in July the nodule had grown back to 4 cm's again. The dr said he didn't want to drain it again because it would grow back. He gave me the option of seeing a surgeon and having it removed. I didn't really want to go down that road at that point.
I have, for the past few weeks, had some pain in area of the nodule. It's kind of a burning ache. It has progressed now to almost constant. I also believe that the nodule may now actually be bigger.
I have had my TSH checked 3 or 4 times since November and everytime it is perfect.
Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? I really appreciate it!

Hi Melissa,
Welcome to our board.
It would be hard for me to determine what
- back in 1997 i went to an endocrinologist for what i thought was hypoglycemia,- i was a brand new patient, and he didn't care about me. - but his Nurse saw that i had a Nodule. - she pointed it out to him, he said i have a nodule BUT he would not do anything about it because they are usually NOTHING to worry about. - in the next 2 months my symptoms of hypoglycemia got so much worse,- and my weightgain was worse,- just everything was worse - i couldn't walk from here to there without stopping for a breath. - a dear friend suggested another opinion. - 1 month after that 2nd opinion, i was in surgery having a (benign) tumor the size of a GRAPEFRUIT removed along with half of my thyroid. - (((and its important to note that my TSH was a constant normal too!))) -- now, the surgeon told me that if i had NOT had the surgery, i would have been DEAD in a MONTH because the tumor was crushing my windpipe, literally, - it was wrapped around my esophagus and damaging my vocal chords. - sadly, the surgeon nicked my vocal chord nerves and my singing voice has changed,- but that tumor is GONE. - i continue to have Nodules, and i have a Real Good Endocrinologist here in new york, and we are constantly checking with U.S., and Biopsies.
please, mommymissy,- don't mess around. - if you have the insurance to cover the surgery,- don't take any chances. - i am alive today thanks to the surgery! - dolores ((now i am on two different doses of synthroid, having a heck of a time getting the thing under control cuz i have a liver disease!))
