Solid Cold Thyroid Nodule

Hi everyone! This is my first time on this message board. I just found out that I have a nodule on my thyroid. It measures 2 cm in diameter is cold and solid. I have already had blood tests done to measure the function of my thyroid and they all came back normal. Then I had a ultrasound done and it showed a solid nodule of 2 cm in diameter with numerous other smaller nodules in my neck. After that I had an uptake and scan done. I just received the reults from this test today. It showed that the nodule is cold and my primary doctor recommended that I go see an endocrinologist. When I asked the nurse what a cold nodule could be, she went around the subject. I've read online that it could mean cancer. I also have swollen lymph nodes in my neck, sore and dry throat, a dry cough, and bothersome swallowing. I have also been tired with little energy for about 4 months or so now.I was wondering if anyone else is going through or has gone through a similar situation or knows anything about it. I am just confused and scared at this point and sick of waiting to find out what's really wrong with me. Thank you in advance for any advice and support you can give me!

Hi Bea - I had my biopsy this morning. My neck is pretty sore right now and it hurts to swallow. My voice is just above a whisper right now. I'm hoping all of this goes back to normal soon. They just biopsied the main nodule. They said that whatever they find out from that will let them know what they need to do about the other nodules and swollen lymph nodes. I guess an ENT has to biopsy the lymph nodes and that's not the kind of doctor who did the procedure today. They took 4 aspirations with a fine needle of my nodule. The first one hurt a little and had a lot of pressure. The second one brought me to tears and the third and fourth ones pinched in the beginning and then just pressure. The worst part was feeling the needle moving around inside the nodule while the doctor scooped up the cells. I'm just glad it's over. The samples were sent to the lab today and they said I should find out the results the middle of next week. Now I'm just back to the waiting game again...

Ann, Thank you for letting us know how things went. I will be very honest with you and I feel that you have the worse of all the tests behind you. Some people it doesn't bother at all, they will say it's nothing, and others find it very bothersome. This should tell them something, and now it's back to the waiting game. I'm pretty sure that the dr. that did the fnb is a specialist in his field as they have to be very careful of the neck area. If I remember right from my fnb (years ago) your neck and voice will come back to normal, it may take a few days or a little longer--but maybe less also. We are all so different, and I feel so bad you had to go through this as it's one test that I've always dreaded--my dr. kept tapping me on the chin and telling me to relax. And then he would tell the others that I was very nervous and couldn't seem to relax. I think you feel the same way--give us a break, we're doing everything we should to find out and do what is right to correct the situation. I know you will feel an improvement in a few days time, it's a tough and very touchy test to go through, and I give you a lot of credit for getting it done and behind you. My prayers and hugs to you, Bea

Thanks Bea! I am feeling better today. My voice still isn't very loud and my neck is still sore. It doesn't hurt to swallow anymore though, so that's good. I went to work today, which is making it worse since I'm a teacher, but I will be home soon and then I can rest. I'm hoping it will continue to get better tomorrow.
It was nice to talking to everyone in the chat last night. Hopefully I can make it again next week. If I can stay up that long...ha, ha...
Anyways, how are things for you today?

It was nice chatting with you too last night! I was glad that I stayed up.
I teach kindergarten at a charter school here. I really enjoy it and the school is very nice to work at as well. What do you do?
