Thyroid issues--or so they say

I am new to ivillage.com. I just need some womanly advice.
I went to the Dr. 5 days ago.. I've experienced a "lump" on the top of my trachea and it is painful to swallow. Also, I am very hoarse and it is difficult to breath when I lie flat on my back. I have no energy and want to sleep all the time.
The Dr. says it was just inflamation, but he ran blood work (T4 uptake, T4, T3, TSH, CBC, etc.) the whole gammit. They called and said my level was 0.82--in a range of 0.40-4.20. Said this was low, however, instead of prescribing medication for it, they said it was just inflammation and scheduled an ultrasound. I had that done today.
The ultrasound showed 6 nodules, 4 on right (where my pain is) and 2 on left (no pain). Dr. did not ultrasound the lump. The pain is increasing and now is going into my right ear. When I called the Dr. office for results, they didn't even tell me about the ultrasound findings. Just that he thinks it is inflammation and wants me to come back in 2 weeks for more blood tests.
This steams me, so I told them NO. I cannot live with this pain for 2 more weeks. So they proceeded to call in an antibiotic and steroid pack. What is going on here? Is this normal. I have a history of thyroid cancer (my maternal Aunt) and my father had lung cancer (mass on outside of lung).
I am so concerned......could someone help me?
Thanks.

Hi crwmartin,
Welcome to our board.
Is the doctor you're seeing your primary care physician or a specialist?
The doctor is a primary care physician. He is saying HYPOthyroidism. He did not give me the reasoning behind the antibiotic, I almost feel like he was pushing me off. You know, "good grief, just give her something to make her go away.".
By the way, I was uncomfortable taking an antibiotic and steroids not knowing exactly why, so I did not go get the prescription. My husband and I talked about it on Friday evening, after all of this, and I am going to call an endocrinologist on Monday.
I am going to insist on more testing, I just don't think I can rest until I know more about what is going on in my body.
Thank you for your support. I will touch base with you guys after my call to the endo.
