Thyroid Cysts/Nodules

Hi, I've been on medication for underactive thyroid and have been feeling okay for the most part but I feel a lump in my throat and sometimes it moves around on me. It doesn't bother me to much with swallowing but it does feel like a lump. Also my right ear feels like I have fluid in it, and I can't clear it. I know this must sound weird but it does. Could I have possible developed a Thyroid Cyst/Nodule??? My TSH level is down to 3. Thanks for any info.

Hi Maryanncu,

Can you see or feel if your thyroid seems swollen?

Thanks Calley7 for the info. I think that will have to be my next step taking an ultrasound test. I have seen my neck swollen and inflammed at the beginning of the treatment and I've been watching it go down; but I am wondering once your thyroid gets down to a decent level would your nodules start disappearing as well? Just curious. Thanks Mary49

I hope you have it checked out - I had earaches and was blacking out everytime I stood up- had to wait for my eyesight to come back- the docs saw my lumps in my neck (at times they seemed bigger)- but told me these things where not caused by the lumps- they were- my blood levels were normal but the biobsy showed I had hasomotos diseise and cancer cells.
after they took out the nodes my earaches and blackouts went away- they tried to tell me it was allergies and\or my sinuses.

Hi, you sound like me. I'm thinking of even changing doctors because my doctor doesn't really talk to you. You have to ask him questions and he even didn't advise me of going for an ultrasound. I was surprised about that because I had a lump also and my ear always seemed clogged. Just the one ear though. My Tsh level has gone down some but I'm wondering about nodules being there. I feel that something is blocking my right ear. I feel that once everything clears up; so should my ear. Don't you think? How did your surgery go? Please let me know. I'm glad everything came back for you. Mary Ann

I've had hypothyroidism for about 11 years. During the last year I began feeling a pressure on my trachea and discomfort/pain that radiated up my neck to my ear and sometimes to my shoulder and chest. I figured out that I *must* have nodules and went to see an endo.

I had an ultrasound - found nodules, then had a Fine Needle Aspiration (actually 2). The results were possible cancer and the decision was made to remove my thyroid.

My surgery was October 13th. I've felt much better in terms of pain and pressure in my neck/throat. My labs came back benign for cancer but positive for Hashimoto's.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Lisa, wow you went thru a lot but I'm glad you're okay.

My problem was that at the beginning of all this; even before I knew what the problem was I had trouble with my throat. I felt a lump in my throat and it made me gag. I got afraid and went to the doctor and that's how I found out what it was. But my regular doctor/endo told me that tsh count was 8. something and but me on synthroid to shrink it but he never said anything to me about an ultrasound test. He just had me come in every three months for blood work and to watch my blood pressure level. I don't know why he never took an ultrasound test on me? He's not an easy doctor to talk to and I've been going to him for over about 2 years now. I'm seriously thinking trying to find myself a good endo doctor and get him to give me a ultrasound.

My tsh level is now down to a 3 level but I'm still feeling something there but not as much as I did before so maybe it is shrinking but going slowly. Anyway, I have to look into another doctor and get better results. I don't even know how many nodules I have. But I just wanted to thank you for getting back to me on you're experience. MaryAnn

Wow MaryAnn, you sound a lot like me. You'd think the first thing he'd do is an ultrasound to see what's going on. I would really urge you to find an endo who will! It's important!
