Confusion over my thyroid
| Sun, 10-22-2006 - 7:58pm |
I found out from my PCP 5 years ago I had a underactive thyroid condition. I was taking medication as directed and after awhile I switched to a doctor that was closer to my home. He stated I didn't have a thyroid problem and told me I didn't need to take my medication and after 1 year of not taking it even though I am tired not sure of that or my B12 deficiency all my levels have been fine. I am not sure what to do or think. Should I ask to see a endocrinologist or no.

I would consult with an Endocrinologist. I have been told I had an underactive Thyroid and then I was told I didn't...I took Synthroid for about a week a couple of years ago and I returned for a follow-up and the nurse practitioner took me off of the medication. Now, my hypothyroid symptoms have worsened and my labs are "low normal". I believe that I waited too long to address the issue. I allowed my M.D.'s to treat me symptomatically instead of insisting that a cause be found. Don't wait until you have trouble just getting through the day...it is very hard when you have a career and a family to just function effectively.

Hi Dreff,
Welcome to our board.
I would agree that you should check into getting another opinion from the specialist.
