I have recently started meds for hypothyroidism but I dont have alot of confidence in my doctor and just wanted to get some of your opinions. My mom and sis both have it too and they are both on Cynthroid and the reading I have done I have come across several common names of meds but my Dr put me on Armour Thyroid, which is all natural pork thyroid. Have any of you been on this before? My Dr is into the naturals so Im assuming thats why he chose this, but he did not ask me, he just prescribed it. Im concerned that is actually from a pig. Even my pharmacist said it is not common. Also, Im wondering if some of what I am feeling is normal? Sore throat, I get hyper feeling about mid morning after taking my meds as soon as I get up, and my face feels flushed throughout the day. I have always been a healthy person and did not even have a Dr of my own but what made me go originally was my moms suggestion when I told her I was so tired in the afternoons, and my weight was changing and the PMS I was now having which I never had until the past 2 years. I am now 41 yo so I had attributed some of it to aging but found my Thyroid was way off. I am going to see the Dr again next week and am going to be full of questions but would like some other advice too from people who already know.
Thanks in advance ! Deb
Thanks in advance ! Deb

Your meds are natural and have t3 and t4.
doctors perfer to use synthics to control the amounts of t3 and t4 ratios.
A good book I got from the library was thyroid solutions by ridha arem and the thyroid source book by rosenthal.
I currently use synthic t3 and t4 - two different pills- but too much t3 can make you hyper fast- t3 reacts quick because t4 is converted in the body to t3.
If your not feeling right after a few weeks you may need a larger or smaller does, some poeple do well on armour others don't- it takes awhile to find out what's right for each of us- hang in there and use the internet there is soo much info out there.
good luck and hope you feel better soon.
Hi Deb,
Welcome to our board.
Armour is prescribed by some but I think most doctors go with the synthroid or levoxyl brands.
Also I like the web site link you sent, Im going to forward that to my sister too who has the same condition. Youre right I do have a list of questions for the Dr and Im thinking he will tell me its too early to tell any difference yet, but maybe he can tell me if my reactions are normal. I have a feeling he will not want to change my RX because like I said before he is into naturals, he believes anything manmade is damage to our bodies. He even told me to quit taking the store bought vitamins because they are drugs. He makes his own line of vitamins so I know some of what he says is a sales gimmic for his own products. I will let you know how the visit goes.
