My mom has been not yet been diagnosed hypothyroid, but she has all the symtoms. She has had several test done and they all come back normal. Today she saw her general practioner and she asked him if he could prescribe armour for her, since I've read about it and told her it helped many people. Anyway he prescribed 30mg, I'm just wondering what could this do to her if she didn't have a thyroid problem. I'm 95% sure she does cause I've seen all the changes she's gone through and see the symtoms. Weightgain, no appetite, extreme fatigue, memory loss, hairloss, weakness etc. I'm kind of surprised he gave it to her, he even said he did't know much about the drug.

Hi Castellitto1969,
Even though your mother's tests are in the "normal" range, she may still have a thyroid problem.
Hi,
If your mom doesn't have thyroid problems then she'll feel too hyperthyroid on those meds. It'll make her feel irritable, tired, weak, heart racing, sweating, shakey, etc. So just tell her to watch out for those symptoms.
He did give her a pretty small dose so she may not feel much on it if she is hypothyroid. Docs don't like to give older people armour thyroid b/c it has t3 in it. Where synthetic ones have only t4 and they rely on your body to covert it into t3, which gives you that little push throughout the day. Typically with armour you get the t3 right away (which is why people like it) and in older people they can't handle it. Everyone is different, depends on your age too.
Your mom may want to start taking calcium also. Not at or near the same time as taking armour though.
