synthroid and reflux

Hi, I have a 4 1/2yr. old daughter. She was born with an underdeveloped thyroid and it's located in the wrong spot. She is completely controlled by Synthroid. She is running into problems with nighttime cough and we have been treating her with Zantac. My Pediatrician just mentioned to me today to ask the Endo Dr. if her Synthroid could be causing the reflux.
Has anyone ever had a problem with this?
Kim

Hi Kim,
Welcome to our board.
I'm not on synthroid so I can't help with your question but hopefully others here can give you some input.
Hi Calley,
Yes, the zantac stops the cough. She definetely has to be in the upright position sleeping though. It doesn't help that she has a bit of a cold right now!
I never even thought the Synthroid could be part of the problem until my Pedi. mentioned it yesterday. I'm going to have to give the Endo. Dr. a call. She's been on it since birth.

I talked to the Endo. Dr. yesterday and she doesn't think it's related. Madison is on Singular too. I'm going to check to see if that has anything about reflux. We just changed her reflux med last night from Zantac to Prevacid. Here's hoping this will help!

Lynette,
Please let us know what your doctor says about this.
Hi there Kim, I just wanted to say hello, but I don't know the answer to the question either.

I am an adult and have increase in reflux/heartburn since starting Synthroid in January. I am currently on 88mcgs and everytime we increase i see an increase in reflux/heartburn symptoms and even when baselined on new dosing I still have increase symptoms vs. before being on the med.

Wow, Cheryl, that is very interesting about all those reactions and side effects after being on synthroid.
Hi,
We've actually found out through trial and error that she doesn't have reflux. Her night cough is due to post nasal drip. We've taken her off the Zantac (thank God, because she'll be 5 next month and hated the taste).
Hope you can find out what works for you.
Kim
