Scared- cancer? Please respond

I had an upper respiratory infection. After that I found a lump in my neck. So I went to the doctor. He said it was from the respiratory infection. That lump did go down. Then I felt a lump when I was swallowing. So he took thyroid tests and sent me for ultrasound. Thyroid test were normal but ultrasound found a nodule with malignant charactestics. Now, I am waiting to see a top doctor in Boston. Endo doctor. But since then, I am freaking out. My other symptom is high blood pressure and facial flushing that will not go away. My face and ears are on fire. I read the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and this sounds like that or subacute thyroidism. but my doctor says no, because my thyroid tests are normal. So,I am sitting here saying I must have cancer because of the facial flushing. I have had that for at least 8 days. Does anyone knows if that is thyroid cancer symptom? I am so terrified with two young children and do not feel well either....

mom_bet11,
I am in a similar situation, see my posts in the thyroid cancer section. Can I ask what features your thyroid nodule has on your ultrasound that seems cancerous? I have never heard of face flushing as a symptom of thyroid cancer.
Hi Mom_bet11,
Welcome to our board.
My first thought is something that we often say here on this board.
Hi thank your both for your responses. Here are my answers:
To Poster #1, the characteristics on the ultrasound were, hypoechoeic, only moderately well defined, central and peripheral blood flow, microcalcifications are suspected, 1cm in size and heterogenesouly diffuse. (whatever that means)
To Poster #2, I have an appointment with Doctor Gil Daniels at Mass General. Do you know anything about him? Is your friend available to talk to me? Can you show her my post? My e-mail is betlonger@yahoo.com Dr. Daniels department also works with Dr. Gaz, the surgeon? I could not get an appt till Jan 5th. Is it okay to wait that long? There are long waiting periods in Boston. All the other doctors would not see me until Feb! I also found a lump in my neck, which has gone down and now a little hard lump in my groin. I am having major panic attacks. I also feel a swollen lump in breast, but I am also getting my period too.
mom_bet11,
I have three thyroid nodules all under 10mm that were found on an ultrasound in October, because I asked my doctor for the ultrasound to check for my weight and very slow metabolism. My internist keeps insisting I don't have any worrisome ultrasound features but I know from reading a lot of great medical web sites from doctors and hospitals that I do have at least 3 features that are commonly found with cancerous nodules. My biggest nodule that is 8mm has a discontinous hypoechoic ring around it and some focal vascularity in the central portion. One of my other nodules is described as homogeoneously hypoechoic too. Two of them have cystic elements too.
I spoke with a top thyroid cancer doctor Dr.Susan Mandel at University of Pennsylvania Hospital and asked her if I need to see her,she said it depends what my ultrasound shows and she asked me to have it faxed to her. So I did and both her secretary and the woman who runs the nursing department told me that I don't fit her criteria and she recommended me to see a regular enocrinolgist there which I'm doing on January 17.And they want to do another ulrasound and then see what they want to do. I really can't understand why Dr.Mandel didn't feel I fit her criteria when I found several online articles she and other doctors wrote for good medical journals and she mentions several of the ultrasound features I have as being typically found with cancerous nodules. Including the blood flow and a solid hypoechoic nodule. I have normal thyroid blood test results too. But there are also many good medical studies I found online including by doctors from Brown University that have found many benign nodules have some of these ultrasound features too and thats why they can't tell a 100% from ultrasounds if they are benign or cancerous.
mom_bet11,
But I sent my ultrasound written report and normal blood test to a top thyroid cancer specialist Dr.Susan Mandel and she didn't think I need to see her! I'm scared too but your doctor wants to make sure that your nodule is benign and not cancerous and even if it's benign the doctor will want to watch it and maybe treat it if it can be done.
Hi Mom_bet11,
