Thyroid surgery in 3 weeks
| Wed, 01-03-2007 - 10:37pm |
I am schedule to have my right thyriod lobe revomed in about 3 weeks due to a suspecious nodule that has alos grown from 1.7cm to 2cm in 6 months. The FNA was found to be suspcious of folicullar cells. I also have hosimotos disease but am not yet on any thyroid medications. The surgeon told me this is done on an outpatient procedure. Does this seem right? Everything I have read has said you should stay at last overnight to observe calcium levels. How long before my voacl cords are back to normal? I work in a business where I do sale presentations for 10 hrs a day?

I stayed overnight on both surgeries. I had 2 surgeries in 2 weeks because when the tested the nodule in the hospital, it came back benign but the path they sent it to for a second opinion, said it was cancer. SOOO they had to go back in to take out the rest of the thyroid. I never had vocal cord problems and never had calcium levels although they test all day and night for any problems. Just make sure you have a good experienced surgeon. I would make sure you stay overnight because calcium levels not being right is a huge problem. Insist on it, be proactive in your health. You will be okay. I thought the surgeries were a piece of cake but everyone is different.
Let us know how it goes...
Hugs to you..

I stayed one night also. My voice was back to normal immediately after surgery.

Hi Kimber0916,
I would also question the fact that you're not staying overnight.
