Hello to everyone,

I am new on this site, looking for some support and encouragement. I am having a partial thryoidectomey in 8 days scared to pieces. I have two nodules right side is 3cm sucpicious and 1.7 on the left benign, so frightened of the outcome! has been there for two years, havent grown, all labs are normal. If anyone has experienced this please! reply, or if anyone is getting ready to have surgery as well. The wait is so horrible I moved my surgery date up 6 weeks early. The fear of getting the news when I come to is sooo frightening, nightmares worring about this. Any support and prayers would be soooo grateful.Thank you :) for reading my post.

Hi Kelly,

Glad you found these boards, they are great. First, let me say that I can relate perfectly. I had my left side lobe and nodule removed in August, FNA and labs were fine but my dr felt it was time to remove the nodule. The hospital path said benign but the final path they sent it to was Cancer. Make sure they send it to another path for a second opinion. We watched my nodule for 7 years with benign results every year but not this year. Sounds like if it is cancer, you caught it early. It can be CUREABLE....Sooo, I had to go back in less than 2 weeks to get the other lobe out..UGH..so i had surgery twice in 2 weeks. I had no vocal cord problems, no calcium problems and my scar is perfect. It all depends on your surgeon. Thyroid cancer is sooo slow growing and non aggressive and loves treatment, what better news can we get when the word cancer is in the same sentence. I am on Levoxyl forever but I take vitamins everyday so no big deal to me. Keep me updated and I am hear for any questions or just to share my experience with my surgery and treatment.

Hugs to you!!

Dyan :)

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. They really mean so much ! It is great to have people to talk to that have been through this and can truly relate to the fears and emotional rollercoaster that this can put people through. I am trying to stay positive surgery in 7 days, the doc gave me adavan(?) not sure how it is spelled but for the anxiety couple days prior to surgery, hopefully that will help. Again thank you for taking the time to repsond I wish you all the best of luck with yours & all stays well. Take Care, hugs back to you! :)

Hi,

I was where you are about 4 weeks ago. I had a partial thyroidectomy for a 3cm nodule on the right. I still have the left with a 1.5 nodule. All benign. My labs and biopsies were always okay for 2 years but decided to proceed with the surgery after doing a lot of research and prayer. I started having symptoms about 6 months ago related to perimenopause and adrenal fatigue and the thyroid was something I could deal with. I was nervous also. It is very important that you are confident with your surgeon. The right nodule was attached to a laryngeal nerve and one of the parathyroids was removed and reimplanted. By a very good surgeon who left a minor scar and my voice - still a little hoarse. It was painful the first couple of days but the pain meds worked and after that just tylenol. So be encouraged and hang in there!

I'm sorry your so frightened but if it helps I had my whole thyroid removed several years ago and I'm doing fine. I too was concerned about the "test" on the removed thyroid but all was well. I also was concerned about losing my vocal abilities as I work the phones. But all went well....A lot of coughing and a little hard to swallow but worth it when I remember that I was choking on water before it's removal for it had grown into my throat..Good luck, it's not as frightful as you might think.

Thank you for responding, everone is telling me is really wasnt that bad, which is some relief my most fears is hearing the outcome, then awaiting the final pathology report. I so want to move on from this and prayer each day it is benign!. I thank you for sharing your experience it helps ease some fear. Thanks again :)
