Hi !! I am new to this board !!

Hello !! I am new to this board. I hope you don't mind if I jump right in. I have a handful of questions. I have had chronic broncitis over the last couple of years. I have had a couple of symptoms that could point to thyroid. My TSH always comes back normal and I am told my thyroid was fine. To make a long story short I was in the hospital a week ago. I had the broncitis thing going on and a rapid and irregular heart rate. I have been very shaky and light headed as well. They did a SCAN of my chest because I was having a high level of pain. Their concern was a a blood clot. No clot, but they found an enlarged thyroid. My doctor ran a handful of blood tests. My questions are this.... can someone have an enlarged thyroid and have nothing wrong with it? When I read the symptoms of Hypothyroidism it seems it is right on the money. My other question is this... A few of the blood tests show the levels close to being out of the "normal" range. They point in the direction of Hypothyroidism. So, could I have Hypothyroidism and have my labs still read "normal"? I feel like I am spinning in circles. I go tomorrow to have an ultrasound done. I hope that brings me some answers. I haven't felt good in a long time and I am hoping I am on the right path. Thanks for reading this and any input you may have. Sheri

Hi Sheri,
Welcome to our board.
It is my opinion that you can have so-called "normal" test readings and still have a thyroid problem.
Hi Rachel !! Thanks for the welcome. Do you mind if I ask you how it was determined that you have cancerous cells in your thyroid? I am new to this and I am trying to educate myself. Thanks !! Best of luck to you at the end of the month.

Hi !! Thanks for your reply. I did ask for my lab results. Here is what they showed. The TSH 0.99,
Free T4 0.8,
Total T3 96,
TSI 1.0+,
Any opinion on those numbers? Could you direct me where to get the current ranges? Thank you for your help.
Sheri
From what I was told (according to the most knowledgable DR I know... my father- trust me he is certifiably brilliant)...
TSH (after 2003 it used to be up to 5) should be between .3 and 3.0
T4 should be approx. between 4.5 and 12.5
T3 should be approx. between 80 and 220
Mind you, I am just as lost with all this as you are... I am 3 months postpartum and have never had a thyroid problem in my life (although it runs in our family). I have an appointment today for follow up testing with my OB/GYN because after a number of symptoms my TSH came back high (from what I was told, if TSH is high and T4 is low, it could be a hypo problem). I am very confused because I have been feeling awful, and most people keep brushing me off as having postpartum issues (i.e. irregular periods- every 10-12 days!, intense headaches, insomnia despite a wonderfully sleeping baby, aches everywhere, etc.). Appointment today...
Hi Sheri,
As listed in the other post, the new range for TSH is .3 - 3.0.
Thank you for the information. I hope your appointment went well today.
Sheri
My Free T 4 is .08. That is close to the Hypo line. Would you mind giving me your opinion on that?
Also, I went for my ultrasound. It lasted about 50 minutes. Much longer then I expected. They told me NOTHING and now I have to wait 3 - 5 days for the results.
