I went to the doctor today for a cold and he felt my neck and told me he thinks I have a thyroid problem. I've been losing my hair in clumps since November but I thought it was just stress. So, they took blood and I get the results in 2 days. I also have to go for a ultrasound of my thyroid on Friday. He said after that, he would see if they needed to do a scan. My grandmother had hypothyroidism and just had to take a pill everyday for the rest of her life. I'm 30 and I have a 2 year old and my husband and I were just trying for baby #2 but are now putting it off until this is resolved. Does anyone here know about having a baby after being diagnosed?
Also any other info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Dawn,

I don't know about having a baby after being diagnosed with anything because my probs started after my children. I am also 30 (almost 31) and all my thyroid issues started after having my son in 2005. Try not to stress too much, wait to get the test results :) I know it is hard, but stressing just makes you crazy!

I had hyperthyroidism and had a total thyroidectomy in Oct. 2006.

Hi. I am new to this web site also. I have had hypothyrodism for 23 years. I was diagnosed when I was 18. I have had two children, one is 11 and the other is 8. They are both very healthy. My doctor kept a close eye on my levels during the pregnancy. I was really tired, but it was worth it. I did not have any problems getting pregnant, but the
doctor checked my levels before we tried. He said that if it is off, it can make it harder to concieve.
I hope this gives you some piece of mind. As long as your thyroid is monitored you will be fine.
P.S. Two of my sisters have thyroid problems, and one had three boys after her thyroid was removed.
