Morning all... New to this board though I have been reading many of the posts since Oct. Late October I discovered a large mass in my neck, and was feeling horrible, after seeing the Dr. and having several blood tests, a sono, and a biopsy I have found that thankfully my nodes are not cancer. I am and have been on suppressive meds since November, when I had the sono done they said I had 3 nodes, one large on the left and 2 smaller on the right. Since then I can feel the right getting larger. But to my question to all of you that have gone thru this or are going thru this... I have had extreme ear pain in my left ear, and very bad pain in my neck back lower left. Pain that awakens me from sleep. This has been going on since the beginning, and Motrin, and Tylenol have stopped working so now I have been given Vicodin for the pain.
Has anyone had similar problems with pain like this? I am returning to the Dr tomorrow, for my regular 6 week appt. I had expressed to him at the last visit that I did not think I could last the 6 months of suppressive treatment ( to see if we can shrink it) if I continued to have this pain. I am grateful that I no longer want to stay in bed...lol and that some of my muscle and joint pains have been resolved with the meds, but the pain I can not live with.
thank you

Hi Apple,
Welcome to our board.
I can't relate to the pain in the areas you have described but I do have some questions.
What meds are you on for suppression?
Thank you for the welcome :)
What meds are you on for suppression?
I have been taking Synthriod (sp?) starting out on a dose of 25, then 50 now it is at 75.
Are they supposed to suppress the growth of the nodules?
Yes...but the right side is now growing larger.
If you're feeling the one getting larger, it doesn't look as though the meds are working.
I so agree...and it is becoming very aggravating talking to my Endo when he continues to insist we wait it out the six months. I would not mind so much if there was not so much pain in my ears & neck.
Are you thinking that the meds are causing the pain since you don't think you can last for the 6 months of the suppressive treatment?
No it is not the meds, it is the nodules pressing on my ears stationary tube, and on the muscles in my neck. They told me to try the suppression therapy for 6 months then we would discuss removing my thyroids. But with all this pain I would rather just do the darn surgery, either way I am going to have to take meds the rest of my life so why not just be rid of them.
In general, are you hypothyroid?
Yes, and I was so tired I could hardly get out of bed.
Thank you so much for answering me :) I too hope someone else has some knowledge of the pain, just to know I am not the only one. :)
