Question about TSH result

Hello!
I just had my TSH tested (just the TSH) which came back at 2.79, which my gyn office said is normal. I have read that normal is anywhere from .5 to 5. I have also read conflicting articles endo's believe that 5 should be lowered to 3 now. I had brought up to my gyn at my annual last week that I have been having horrible night sweats to the point where I now have insomnia for about 2 months, I have heart palpitations, a dull headache most days. The odd thing is that I feel cold all the time, not hot. I can never seem to get warm, even with layers. I am always tired which I attribute to the insomnia. I thought I might be premenopausal, but I am only 36 which she believes I am too young for and I am also on BCP's which should be giving me the extra estrogen I need to counter-act any dips my body would be going through. She did switch me to a lower estrogen pill. I am at a loss. I eat healthy, am at a healthy weight, drink plenty of water, take a multivitamin. Is there something more I should be looking into? I dont know which way to turn now. I am so tired, I know something is going on with my body and I am confused. Thanks!
Christine

Hi, Also being new to the board I thought I'd give you a little info I have found through my own research and experiences. So here it goes. Though your TSH appears to be within normal range, did they check your antibodies? Many doctors rely on just TSH but as you have read and heard there is alot of new studies out there. Some even say they don't feel well unless their TSH is at 2 or lower. My son is a good example of this he feels better at 1 if not abit below. I myself am still trying to get within normal range as I have a slightly different situation (graves disease)which has brought me from hyperthyroid to present hypothyroid courtesy of the lovely radioactive iodine treatment that my endo prescribed. Anyway, I suggest to you that you ask your doctor to retest your thyroid check your T4, T3 and antibodies etc. Good luck and let me know what happens.
