New here, Question about hashimotos

I apologize if this is to long, but I would really like some feed back on it.

I have been reading this board for a few weeks now, and would like to ask a question.
A little background first. I have had hypothyroidism for about 23 years. I am currently
taking 200mg of synthyroid. For the past year or so, my symptoms have returned and gotten
worse. I am tired most of the time, and cold. My hair is not only falling out some but it is actually breaking off. My skin is so dry that no matter what I do or use, by the end of the day I am "flaking" arms and face. Last November I had an episode where I got real lightheaded, but my body felt heavy, I saw lights behind my eyes, and it was all I could do to breath, I actually felt my heart slowing way down. It was a really weird feeling. I did not have any pain at that time, though I have been having a lot of headaches. This lasted for only a few minutes but the after effects lasted longer. For the follow 2 weeks or so I was dizzy, having some trouble finding the right words and generally feeling "off".I had a real problem concentrating and even difficulty swallowing. I was also experiencing jaw pain. The doctor did some blood tests and a MRI of my brain, but found nothing to explain this. She sent me to a specialist for ear, nose and throat for my jaw. While this doctor was examining me, (I have TMJ)he found a nodule(s) on my thryoid. I have had a ultrasound done for this. The tech said it looks like hashimotos, and said I definately have a problem. I go back to the doctor in a few days for the result. In the meantime I have had another "episode".

QUESTION: What exactly is hashimotos, and how do you treat it. The only thing I have been able to find says you take thyroid medication for it, but I am all ready on it. Do you have any ideas what might be done?

Thanks, I just had to ask someome.

Hi sableeyes,

Welcome to our board.

Hashimoto's is the autoimmune form of thyroid disease.
