Kicking the sweet tooth!?

Hello all. I just discovered the board and wanted to pose a question. I have been living with hypothyroidism for 10+ years now, and have been taking daily meds (levoxyl and cytomel). I have been readng up a bit on special diet/exercise tips and have just learned that those of us with hypo need to really cut out the sugar. I had NO idea it was even more important for us... and I am a candy-holic. I have the worst sweet tooth known to mankind and cannot for the life of me find a substitute or figure out a way to kick the habit. I am seeing a trainer, working out, and watching my food intake... everything is going okay but for my candy habit. Does anyone have any suggestions for me??
By the way-- my trainer turned me on to a fabulous website called "sparkpeople.com" and I LOVE it. It allows me to track food intake and it caculates the calories, carbs, fat and protein for me; it also tracks my workouts (calories burned) and has a bunch of other features. The best part? IT'S FREE!!! :) Thought I'd share.

Hi k3of3,
As I just posted to someone else here, I can certainly relate to your sugar experience.
Thanks Calley. I journal my food intake and give it to my trainer each time we meet. For the most part, I'm pretty honest about what I eat... although I have to admit I don't always include the 900 handfuls of M&Ms I manage to inhale (slight exaggeration). :) I am going to try to give up candy for Lent. I've done it before, so hopefully, I can do it again. After a few weeks I don't miss it quite so much. Keep your fingers crossed!
