I have a small idea of what its like. I had a patient months ago who had a thyroidectomy, but she was in a whole lot of pain it seemed. But everywhere I read they say its not that bad.

What was your experience?

I would do a thyroidectomy any day of the week over getting a root canal, filling, childbirth, etc! my PMS cramps hurt worse!

I am a HUGE baby! it was so easy! the hardest part was the nasuea from the anesthesia, but that was not bad at all! The first day I slept the whole time, the day after i was up and around and went thome!

I can not express how easy it was! it was so easy it feels like i didnt get aprocedure done. the worst part was the drain tube and them takign it out was uncomfortable not painful..the hardest part is going from layign down to sitting upa nd picking up my son!

i even posted about this aft4er wards:

Where you able to return to work quickly? And I saw your other posts about your up and coming surgery. Did you have an idea going into it the first time that you had cancer?

No i didnt know and my dr said it was MORE THAN LIKELY *NOT* cancer LOL and it was! i'm more anxious now b/c i know the whole routine as opposed to when i didnt know! (im weird like that though)

Yes I was back to work the next day BUT I still had the drain tube so I worked from home. I would recommend takin the day after off cause you'll be tired and probably have a drain tube--some drs make you stay the next day and release taht afternoon

The next day, thats FANTASTIC! I was hoping for not more than 2 weeks (don't want to use up all my sick time). Although it may be kind of akward working on patients with a dressing on my neck but hey, they would be the ones to understand right?

You dont need a dressing!

The first ten minutes after the tube was taken out it leaked a little butr they use the glue now to sew up instead of stitches! So it keeps it all in!!

It will be reddish and rthen about 10 days later the glue will peel and look like ur neck is peeling LOL make sure you clip it off and

Thank you so much for answering my questions. You have given me alot of hope. Its kind of strange looking to answers from patients being that I'm an RN, but you have given me more hope than any professional has yet. Thanks!
