Hypo And High BP

The past couple of months have been interesting. Had my annual check up with doc and regular blood work, which has included thyroid the past couple of years due to family history. My BP all of a sudden sky rocketed (160/120 range...yikes!) and it has always been normal or borderline. So doc put me on BP meds and my tsh came back indicating hypo so did the t3/t4 that confirmed hypothyroid. Doc just started me on levothyroxin this past week. In the previous month or so, had been on 3 different BP meds (beta blocker, then diuretic then DiovanHCT). So now that I started the thyroid meds, my BP has dropped drastically to 98/68..yikes in the other direction!)
I had read that a sudden spike in BP can be an indication of hypothyroidism and I thought this would happen, my BP would drop back to at least normal ranges with thyroid meds, but I am going to talk to doc on Monday about stopping BP meds.
Anyone else experience this with hypo?

Hi callmecancun,
Welcome to our board.
That's quite a hike and drop in your blood pressure.
Well, I called my Doctor's office this morning and let his nurse know about the huge fluctuation. I "knew" that when my BP was so wildly high at first then the thyroid tests came back confirming hypothyroidism that there had to be a conection. I have done some reading up on it on-line and I have seen reports of high BP with hypothyroidism so I kind of knew when I started the levothyroxin it would fall back into place. Guess I just know what is "normal" for my body, but it appears I was right. Since the thyroid "regulates" just about everything in our bodies, then it makes sense for the thyroid meds to bring everything back into balance. Told the nurse that I was going to stop the latest BP med I was on and go back to just the diruetic and she was going to talk to my Dr. then call me back. My voicemail is messed up right now, so I am not sure if she called me back or not, but I think I made the right choice. My BP is back to just below 120/80 today. :)
