Hi I'm new here and this may end up long but will try and keep short. I've been looking on here at some of the messages for the past week and just got back from the doctor and need some answers. I was on synthroid when I was a baby til about 7or8 years old they took me off everything was fine than about ten or so years ago back on never really understood why since never felt any different on it. Last Aug we went away and I forgot the pills so didn't take them for three days started feeling great so talked to doctor which is another problem switched doctors and he recommended staying on but didn't and got blood work done after six weeks off and found TSH 75 and during that time I felt great not sleeping as much not gaining weight not moody, regular periods, etc, etc. Well went back on and did blood work again and normal 4. something well feeling terrible so left go for about five months now gaining weight, tired, not eating, periods irregular, major cramps yet no bleeding, very moody. About two weeks ago really went down hill with period, moody, depressed so stopped synthroid and made appointment to see the doctor. Well today saw him and he says mood, sleep, has nothing to do with synthroid that sounds more like depression which I was on pills for another reason for about three years rather not say here but he feels its that and wants me to go back on depression pills and stay off thyroid for a month and get blood work done but feels I probably need it. I guess my questions are if I feel better off why do I need it which he said I wouldn't feel a change in the ten days I've been off it. Well I'm not near as moody, irratable, sleeping less, losing weight. I don't want to be on depression pills and I understand I need the thyroid pills but what else can I do if synthroid ain't working for me the blood work shows I'm fine BUT I"M NOT!!!! Why doesn't he get that??? I don't want to live this way. I'm not even sure if any of this makes any sense right now I'm so confused and lost at what to do. I just need to know if others have this problem and what options are there. Doctor doesn't get that when I'm on the pills I'm losing hair like crazy, gaining weight, sleeping more, less energy, periods very out of whack and the two months I was off the pills I wasn't.well I'll go try and function rest of day thanks for answering.

Hi dwise2007,
Welcome to our board.
Your thyroid situation does sound confusing.
